Outcast, directed by Colm McCarthy, is a chilling blend of urban fantasy and horror that delves into ancient folklore and modern-day terror. Set in the bleak housing estates of Edinburgh, the film weaves a haunting tale of love, revenge, and monstrous secrets. With its atmospheric storytelling and unsettling visuals, Outcast stands out as a uniquely eerie horror film.
Mary (Kate Dickie) and her teenage son Fergal (Niall Bruton) are drifters, constantly on the run from an ominous threat. They settle in an Edinburgh housing estate, but their quiet life is soon disrupted when Cathal (James Nesbitt), a brutal hunter wielding dark magic, arrives, intent on finding and killing Fergal.
As Cathal tracks them, strange occurrences plague the area, and a horrifying creature begins stalking the neighborhood, leaving a trail of carnage. Fergal, meanwhile, forms a connection with Petronella (Hanna Stanbridge), a spirited local girl, complicating his mother’s desperate efforts to protect him.
As the story unfolds, the truth about Fergal’s identity, the creature, and the ancient curse tying them all together comes to light, leading to a harrowing and bloody climax.
