Monster-In-Law (2025) – Jane Fonda, Jennifer Lopez, Michael Vartan
The sequel to the beloved 2005 rom-com Monster-In-Law picks up nearly two decades later, with Viola Fields (Jane Fonda) now retired from her high-profile career. However, her fiery personality remains intact. Charlie (Jennifer Lopez) and Kevin (Michael Vartan) are happily married, raising their two teenage daughters, Mia and Sophie, in California. Their life is seemingly perfect, until Mia announces her engagement to her boyfriend, Ethan.
Viola, now a grandmother, is thrilled at the idea of a lavish wedding, but tensions arise when Ethan’s mother, Barbara (played by Meryl Streep), enters the scene. Barbara is the picture of calm, collected elegance—everything Viola is not. Determined not to be outshined as a mother-in-law, Viola quickly reverts to her old scheming ways, dragging Charlie reluctantly into her elaborate plans.
As Viola and Barbara engage in a hilarious battle of wits, chaos ensues, from wedding dress sabotage to a disastrous cake-tasting event. Meanwhile, Charlie tries to mediate between her mother-in-law and Barbara while keeping the peace with her own daughter.
The turning point comes when Viola’s antics accidentally ruin Mia and Ethan’s engagement party. Feeling guilty, she realizes that her fear of losing her place in the family drove her behavior. Viola and Barbara form an unlikely alliance to fix everything, culminating in a beautiful, heartfelt wedding.
The film ends on a hilarious note as Viola accidentally drops the bouquet, hinting she may not be done meddling just yet. It’s a perfect blend of heartfelt moments and laugh-out-loud comedy.
