Banshee (2013–2016) is a gritty, high-octane crime drama television series created by Jonathan Tropper and David Schickler, produced by Alan Ball (True Blood). Set in the small, fictional town of Banshee, Pennsylvania — an Amish community hiding far more than meets the eye — the story follows an ex-convict who assumes the identity of the town’s murdered sheriff in order to stay hidden from a dangerous criminal past.
Portrayed by Antony Starr, the unnamed protagonist (often referred to as Lucas Hood) uses his new position as sheriff to impose his own brutal sense of justice, all while searching for his former lover and accomplice Anastasia, who is now living under a new identity with a family of her own. As Hood becomes entangled with local crime rings, corrupt officials, and secretive Amish figures, his past threatens to catch up with him—especially in the form of powerful mob boss Rabbit, who’s out for revenge.
Banshee is known for its intense action sequences, raw violence, explicit content, and fast-paced storytelling. It masterfully blends crime, noir, and emotional depth, all while exploring themes of identity, redemption, loyalty, and the consequences of violence. With complex characters and unpredictable twists, the show earned a loyal fanbase and critical acclaim throughout its four-season run.
