‘Polite’ Christa Pike tried to help executioners before bungled lєthaℓ injections, lawyer claims

Christa Pike was “kind and polite” and even tried to help her executioners during her botched lєthaℓ inje𝔠ti☉n, her lawyer said.

The convicted murderer, 50, was rushed to hospital after surviving two doses of pentobarbital on Sept. 30 at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville and regained consciousness Tuesday.

“Christa was at peace, she helped the exє𝔠uti☉n team find what they thought was venous access,” her lawyer, Randy Spivey, told a press conference Wednesday.

“She was kind and polite as they worked for an hour, stabbing her arm with needle after needle, and then she felt the burn of the pentobarbital.”

Pike is believed to be the first dєatᩚh row inmate in US history to have survived after being given the lєthaℓ inje𝔠ti☉n.

She was sentenced to dєatᩚh for the sadistic murder of her 19-year-old Job Corps classmate Colleen Slemmer in Jan. 1995, when she was 18.

Her legal team said that she is now “up and walking” after cheating dєatᩚh but still remains mentally “foggy.”

“What’s been described to me is that physically there’s quite a bit going on, that her arms are very injured and she’s not able to use them very much,” her federal defense attorney, Stephen Ferrell, told the BBC.

Ferrell said that although her condition has improved, it still remains to be seen whether she has suffered any permanent brain injuries.

“She can lose her train of thought really easily and forgets where she’s going,” he added.

Meanwhile, Pike’s aunt put her niece’s astonishing survival down to divine intervention.

“When God puts his hand on someone, God is in control,” Carrie Ross told the Daily Mail. “Not the Department of Correction, not us, but God.”

Pike’s lawyers appeared in court Wednesday to argue for a motion ordering the Tennessee Department of Correction to preserve all evidence related to her bungled exє𝔠uti☉n.

They said that the evidence could be “relevant for any future challenge she makes.”

Judge I’Ashea Myles ruled that anything that was in the dєatᩚh chamber “needs to be preserved and maintained,” in addition to surveillance footage or any videos, handwritten notes, witness accounts, and encrypted communications.

Tennessee Assistant Attorney General William Ayers told the hearing there is currently no pending exє𝔠uti☉n order for Pike and replied, “I can’t answer that question” when asked by the judge if the capital punishment would be rescheduled.

After what was the state’s second failed exє𝔠uti☉n since May, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee halted all remaining executions this year and ordered an independent review.

Pike’s legal team has called on Gov. Lee to commute her sentence, saying she has “endured punishment greater than any other person in the history of the American dєatᩚh penalty.”
