BREAKING NEWS: $1 Million Reward Announced as Police Intensify Efforts to Solve the Disappearance of Four-Year-Old Gus Lamont!hl

SOUTH AUSTRALIA — October 10, 2026 — Nearly a year after four-year-old August “Gus” Lamont vanished from a remote sheep station in South Australia, authorities have announced a reward of up to A$1 million for information that could finally help investigators solve the case.

The announcement marks a major development in one of the region’s most extensive missing-child investigations.

Despite repeated ground searches, aerial surveillance, specialist forensic examinations and hundreds of public reports, investigators have yet to locate Gus or establish conclusively what happened to him.

The reward was announced on September 23 by South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas as the first anniversary of the boy’s disappearance approached.

Police have urged anyone with relevant information to come forward, stressing that even a seemingly minor detail could prove important.

The Disappearance That Triggered a Mᴀssive Search
Gus was last seen at approximately 5 p.m. on September 27, 2025, playing outside the family homestead at Oak Park Station, near Yunta, roughly 300 kilometres northeast of Adelaide.

About 30 minutes later, his grandmother went outside to call him in and discovered that he was missing.

The remote property and surrounding terrain presented a formidable challenge for search teams.

Police, emergency personnel and specialist teams searched the area using aircraft, drones, tracking dogs and ground operations.

Investigators also examined dams, wells, mine shafts and waterways.

According to South Australia Police, the operation included 11 individual ground searches conducted over 30 days, alongside extensive aerial searches using specialised camera equipment.

Yet no trace of Gus has been found.

Why Police Are Offering A$1 Million
The reward is intended to encourage anyone holding crucial information to help investigators establish what happened to Gus.

Under the official announcement, the money may be paid for information leading to the conviction of the person or persons responsible for his disappearance and/or the recovery of his remains.

Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke, who leads the relevant major-crime investigation, has appealed directly to the public.

Investigators believe someone may know more than they have disclosed, and police are particularly interested in credible information that can be independently checked.

The size of the reward reflects the seriousness of the case, but it does not mean authorities have identified the person responsible or are on the verge of an arrest.

The investigation remains unresolved.

Police Focus on Someone Known to Gus
In February 2026, authorities declared Gus’s disappearance a major crime.

Police have since said that neither the theory that Gus simply wandered away nor the possibility that an unknown stranger abducted him is supported by the evidence gathered so far.

Investigators have instead focused on the possibility that someone known to the child was involved.

Police have publicly identified a person within the family circle as a suspect, but no conviction has resulted, and suspicion must not be confused with proof.

Gus’s parents have been ruled out as suspects, according to police statements reported by major Australian news outlets.

Investigators have not publicly disclosed all the evidence underlying their suspicions.

The idenтιтy of a suspect alone cannot answer the central question of what happened to Gus.

Aerial Imagery Offers a Potential New Lead
Another important development emerged shortly before the reward announcement.

Detectives from Task Force Horizon completed a detailed manual review of aerial imagery collected during earlier searches.

Superintendent Fielke said the review identified several “anomalies” that investigators were examining further.

Depending on the outcome of that ᴀssessment, police may return to Oak Park Station to search particular areas again.

Authorities have not publicly explained exactly what the anomalies show, and there is no confirmed evidence that they reveal Gus’s location.

Their significance remains under investigation.

The Reward Generates an Immediate Response
The announcement quickly produced additional public information.

South Australia Police reported that Crime Stoppers received 34 calls and two emails in the first day after the reward was announced.

Nine additional calls had been received earlier that week amid growing media attention ahead of the anniversary.

Detectives said the reports would be ᴀssessed and investigated where appropriate.

The response illustrates why police believe renewed public attention could matter.

However, the number of calls does not establish that investigators have received a decisive breakthrough, and authorities have not announced that the reward has led to a confirmed discovery.

Gus’s Parents Make an Emotional Appeal
As the anniversary approached, Gus’s parents, Jessica Murray and Joshua Lamont, made a public appeal asking anyone with information to contact investigators.

They described their son as a sweet, unique child who loved music, stories and exploring the natural world.

They also spoke of the pain of reaching another family milestone without knowing where he was or what had happened.

Their appeal reinforces the human reality behind the investigation: while detectives continue reviewing evidence, a family remains without answers about its missing child.

What Happens Next?

The investigation now faces two closely connected challenges: finding evidence that can establish Gus’s fate and obtaining reliable information that can support further investigative action.

The A$1 million reward creates another opportunity for witnesses or people with previously undisclosed knowledge to come forward.

The aerial-image review may also lead to further searches, although no new discovery has been confirmed.

For now, investigators have not located Gus, and no court has established who is responsible for his disappearance.

Anyone with information can contact South Australia Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a report online at Crime Stoppers South Australia.

Anonymous information is accepted.

Nearly a year after Gus disappeared, the reward sends a clear message from authorities: the investigation remains active, and credible information could still make a difference.

For his family, the unanswered question remains painfully simple — where is Gus Lamont?
