“HE WAS THE CENTRE OF OUR WORLD”: FAMILY’S HEARTBREAKING TRIBUTE TO THREE-YEAR-OLD NOAH WOODS

The little boy’s disappearance sparked a huge community search in Suffolk. Weeks later, an inquest heard how he had left a playground through a gap in a fence before being found in a nearby pond.

A family in Suffolk is facing an unimaginable loss after three-year-old Noah Woods was found in a pond following an extensive search that brought hundreds of people together.

Noah went missing on the afternoon of September 15, 2026, after visiting a playground in Brantham with a relative. More than 1,000 people joined the search, with emergency services and specialist teams working alongside members of the public to help find him.

The following day, police divers recovered a child’s body from Decoy Pond. Authorities later confirmed the identity as Noah. His dєatᩚh was not being treated as suspicious, police said.

For his family, the loss was devastating. In a tribute shared through Suffolk Police, they remembered Noah as a happy, playful little boy whose laughter and affection brought joy to everyone around him.

Noah’s family described him as a “happy, cheeky, playful three-year-old boy” who loved to laugh and giggle.

“He was part of a loving and caring family, living with his mummy, daddy and his little baby brother. He was at the centre of our world,” they said.

His father, Rhys Woods, also paid tribute to his son, describing him as the “sweetest and most innocent little boy, with nothing but love to give”.

“There are no words to describe the pain of this loss, we are all absolutely heartbroken,” he wrote in a message shared on social media.

The family said Noah was being assessed for autism, although he had not received a diagnosis. He also had mild hearing loss and delayed speech.

Despite these challenges, they explained, he had been learning new words and had only recently begun finding and using his voice more confidently.

“One of the things we miss most is the special sound of his voice,” the family said. “It was unique, wonderful, and something we will carry with us forever.”

An inquest opened at Suffolk Coroner’s Court in Ipswich on September 25 to hear preliminary details surrounding Noah’s disappearance.

Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Connick told the hearing that Noah had been visiting an under-fives play area in Brantham with a relative as part of their usual routine.

CCTV footage showed Noah playing at the playground between approximately 2.13pm and 2.37pm. However, the camera was motion-activated and did not record continuously.

The inquest heard that Noah left the play area through a gap in the fence leading towards a memorial garden, then went through an open gate.

His relative was following closely behind and trying to keep up. The officer said the relative shouted after him, but after Noah had travelled approximately 200 metres, he could no longer be seen.

Police were contacted, and a large-scale search operation began.

The hearing did not establish a final conclusion about the circumstances of Noah’s dєatᩚh. The inquest was opened and adjourned to a later date.

A MASSIVE SEARCH BROUGHT THE COMMUNITY TOGETHER

As news of Noah’s disappearance spread, people from Brantham and surrounding areas came forward to help.

Approximately 1,300 members of the public joined the search, alongside police officers, specialist divers, coastguard teams, firefighters and search-and-rescue volunteers.

The village hall and leisure centre became important coordination points as volunteers worked to cover the surrounding area.

Despite the enormous effort, police divers recovered Noah’s body from Decoy Pond on September 16. The inquest later heard that he was found around five metres from the bank, among submerged tree roots, at a location estimated to be approximately 1.8 metres deep.

The response left a lasting impression on the community. Tributes came from residents, local organisations and the football community, with Ipswich Town FC paying its respects and players wearing black armbands in Noah’s memory.

HIS FAMILY’S PLEA TO REMEMBER THE HAPPY LITTLE BOY

In their statement, Noah’s family said they wanted people to remember him for the life he lived rather than only the circumstances of his disappearance.

They recalled his special relationship with a treasured relative who regularly took him to the park on Tuesdays. Together, they would play chase, run around and explore the playground equipment.

Those ordinary moments had become precious memories for the family.

“We want people to remember him running, playing chase, giggling and being the happy little boy that he was,” they said. “That is who Noah was, and that is how he deserves to be remembered.”

Noah’s mother, Charlie Peck, also shared a simple message for other parents: “If there is one thing we could ask of people, it is to hold their children a little tighter, cherish every moment, and never take those precious memories for granted.”

AN INQUEST AND QUESTIONS THAT REMAIN

The preliminary inquest hearing outlined the movements leading up to Noah’s disappearance and the subsequent search. However, it did not provide a final determination of the medical cause of dєatᩚh.

At the time of the hearing, the cause was recorded as pending further investigation, and the inquest was adjourned.

Police had said Noah’s dєatᩚh was not being treated as suspicious. The available findings should therefore not be interpreted as establishing criminal wrongdoing or assigning blame to any individual.

Separately, the East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust apologised to Noah’s family after unauthorised access to his medical records was identified. The trust said 10 employees had been removed from active duty or suspended while investigations continued, and that the matter had been reported to the Information Commissioner’s Office.

The data breach was a separate matter from the investigation into Noah’s dєatᩚh, but it added another source of distress for a family already enduring profound grief.

“WE WILL CARRY HIS VOICE WITH US FOREVER”

Noah was only three years old, but his family’s words reveal how much love, personality and happiness he brought into their lives.

The volunteers who searched for him, the residents who offered support and the organisations that paid tribute all became part of a community united by concern for a little boy.

For his family, the most important thing is that Noah is remembered not simply as a child whose disappearance ended in tᩚraɢedy, but as their beloved son and brother: affectionate, playful, curious and full of laughter.

As the inquest process continues, their message remains one of love and remembrance: Noah was cherished, his life mattered, and the memories of his little voice and joyful laughter will stay with them forever.
