MIRACLE CONJOINED TWIN GIRLS SUCCESSFULLY SEPARATED IN HISTORIC 11-HOUR SURGERY
In an extraordinary medical achievement, conjoined twin sisters AmieLynn Rose and JamieLynn Rae Finley have been successfully separated following an 11-hour procedure at Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas. Born prematurely on October 3 at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth, the 16-week-old girls were omphalopagus twins, joined at the abdomen and sharing skin, muscle, and a liver.
Led by pediatric surgeon Dr. José Iglesias, a multidisciplinary team of 25 healthcare specialists—including six surgeons—carefully planned the operation. To prepare for the hospital’s first-ever conjoined twin separation, doctors built 3D anatomical models and devised a color-coded safety system using purple and green nail polish and matching surgical caps to ensure seamless, dedicated care for each baby during the operation.
During the delicate surgery, the team divided the shared liver and reconstructed individual abdominal walls for both infants. The successful separation marks a pivotal turning point for the Finley family, allowing AmieLynn and JamieLynn to rest in separate cribs for the first time in their lives.
Conjoined births occur in roughly 1 in 200,000 deliveries, making separation possible only when shared structures permit. Thanks to detailed planning and coordinated expertise, both girls are now recovering well as physically independent individuals, ready to face a bright future side by side.
