FBI Reportedly Returns to Nancy Guthrie’s Neighborhood as Monsoon Rains Shift the Terrain

More than six months after Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her Arizona home, new reports suggest investigators may have returned to the area surrounding her Tucson residence, raising fresh questions about whether authorities have uncovered new information in the case.

According to a report published by the New York Post on August 6, a neighbor in the Catalina Foothills said she recently saw people she recognized from earlier law enforcement activity searching through desert brush behind Guthrie’s neighborhood. The neighbor said the individuals appeared to be FBI personnel.

The report noted, however, that the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said it was not aware of investigators from the task force returning to the area at that time. The FBI also had not publicly confirmed the reported search, meaning the exact reason for the activity remains unclear.

Nancy Guthrie, 84, was reported missing on February 1, 2026. Authorities believe she was forcibly taken from her home during the early morning hours. Her disappearance has remained an active investigation, but no suspect has been publicly identified.

One possible explanation for renewed searches involves the weather. Tucson’s summer monsoon season has brought periods of heavy rainfall to the region, potentially changing the desert landscape. Retired Pima County Sheriff’s Department lieutenant Bob Krygier told Fox News Digital that flooding and moving water can shift rocks, soil and other material, potentially exposing areas that investigators could not previously examine in the same way.

Krygier also said a return to an area that had already been searched could indicate that investigators received a new tip or developed a specific reason to examine a particular location again. At this stage, there is no public confirmation that either explanation is connected to the reported FBI activity.

The development comes as investigators continue reviewing a large amount of surveillance footage and following leads in the case. Authorities have repeatedly said the investigation has not gone cold.

The case also received renewed attention after investigators released two alleged ransom notes in late July. Officials have not confirmed that the notes are authentic, but authorities said their release produced a slight increase in public tips, and investigators have been following up on those reports.

The combined reward for information leading to answers in Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance has risen above $1.2 million. Despite months of searches and investigative work, her whereabouts remain unknown.

For now, the reported return of FBI personnel to the neighborhood has not been officially linked to a breakthrough. But with investigators continuing to pursue leads and the changing desert environment potentially revealing previously hidden evidence, the area around Guthrie’s home remains an important part of the ongoing investigation.
