šŸ’”šŸ„¹ SHE COULDN’T FIND ANYONE WHO LOOKED LIKE HER—SO BROOKLINN KHOURY BECAME THAT PERSON FOR OTHERS ā¤ļø

From a hospital bed, Brooklinn Khoury searched the internet for something many people might take for granted: a face that looked like hers.

She couldn’t find one.

Instead of allowing that absence to define her, the young skateboarder and model decided to turn her experience into something that could help someone else feel less alone.

In November 2020, when Khoury was just 20 years old, she survived a devastating dog attack that caused severe injuries to her face, including the loss of her upper lip. The physical trauma was only one part of what followed. She was suddenly facing a long and uncertain process of reconstruction, recovery, and learning to live with a dramatically changed appearance.

For nearly a year, Khoury searched for answers and explored her options before eventually meeting UCLA surgeon Dr. Nicholas Do, who became an important part of her reconstruction journey.

Her recovery required multiple complex procedures. Among them was an approximately 20-hour reconstructive surgery that used tissue from her forearm to help rebuild her upper lip.

It was an extraordinary medical undertaking—but the journey was about much more than surgery.

While doctors worked to reconstruct what had been lost, Khoury was also rebuilding her relationship with herself.

There were difficult days. There were moments of uncertainty. And there was the emotional challenge of seeing a reflection that no longer looked the way it once had.

But rather than hiding those moments, Khoury began sharing them.

Through social media and public appearances, she documented parts of her recovery that many people might have chosen to keep private. Scars, swelling, surgeries, setbacks, progress—she allowed people to see the reality behind the transformation.

Her decision carried a powerful message.

Healing does not always happen in a straight line. Sometimes it means celebrating a small improvement. Sometimes it means facing another procedure. Sometimes it simply means getting through another day.

And sometimes, healing means realizing that you don’t have to look like everyone else to be worthy of being seen.

Khoury’s story has resonated with people far beyond the medical community because of something she discovered during those lonely hospital searches: representation matters.

When she couldn’t find someone who looked like her, she chose to become that example for others.

Her journey also challenges the idea that recovery is only about returning to the person you were before an accident. Reconstruction can restore physical function, but emotional healing often involves something deeper—learning to embrace the person you are becoming.

Today, Brooklinn Khoury’s story stands as a reminder that scars do not have to be hidden to be beautiful, and vulnerability does not have to mean weakness.

She once searched the internet hoping to find someone who could show her that life could continue after such a profound change.

She couldn’t find that person.

So she became her.

And now, someone facing their own difficult journey may look at Brooklinn and realize:

ā€œI’m not alone.ā€ ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹
