A NIGHTCLUB ENCOUNTER: THE UNCONVENTIONAL BEGINNING OF MATT DAMON AND LUCIANA BARROSO

On a busy Saturday night in Miami back in 2003, Hollywood actor Matt Damon was in town filming Stuck on You. Persuaded by crew members to go out for a drink, he ended up at a South Beach venue where Luciana Barroso was working as a bartender while raising her four-year-old daughter, Alexia.

As fans quickly recognized the actor, the requests for photographs and autographs became overwhelming. To escape the crowd’s attention, Matt stepped behind the bar where Luciana was working. Rather than turning him away, Luciana made him a deal: if he wanted to stay behind the counter, he had to make himself useful. Having previously practiced bartending for a movie role, Matt began mixing drinks for customers. Luciana later recalled that having a famous movie star serving drinks brought in an impressive amount of tips that evening.

Throughout the night, the pair struck up a natural and effortless conversation. Impressed by her devotion as a mother, Matt respected her choice completely.

They married in New York on December 9, 2005, with Matt becoming a stepfather to Alexia, and the couple later welcomed three more daughters together. Years later, they still look back on that night with fond humor—Matt claims he saw her across the room with a light shining on her, while Luciana playfully reminds him it was just the club’s normal lighting.
