A 24-Year Promise Tied with Love
In the summer of 1997, a five-year-old girl named Megan sat in her kindergarten classroom in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. With crayons in hand and construction paper before her, she crafted a simple paper tie for Father’s Day. Her teacher laminated it and attached a string so it could be worn. When Megan proudly handed the gift to her father, Glenn Becker, he smiled and made a heartfelt vow: he would wear it on her wedding day.

To most, it sounded like a sweet, forgettable remark. But Glenn meant every word. He hung the colorful tie on his bedroom mirror. Year after year, as dust gathered, he carefully wiped it clean and repeated his promise. As Megan grew into a teenager, she would simply roll her eyes, treating it as a tender family joke.
Years later, during a move to Appleton, the tie mysteriously vanished. Megan assumed it was lost forever, teasing her dad that his long-held promise was officially off the table.

In October 2021, Megan married her love, Travis. The ceremony was picture-perfect, but when the father-daughter dance arrived at the reception, Glenn was nowhere to be found. Moments later, he stepped onto the dance floor wearing the faded, crayon-colored paper tie from 24 years ago. Unbeknownst to Megan, her mother had safely packed it away during the move, allowing Glenn to keep his secret until the big moment.
Megan instantly broke down in tears, overwhelmed by the sentimental gesture. It cost nothing to make and took only an afternoon, but to a loving father, it was never just paper—it was a sacred promise to his little girl, kept for a lifetime.
