Police Executing Gun Warrant Make 𝘴h☉𝔠king Discovery: 76 Dogs Found Inside Filthy Illinois Home

Police officers serving a firearms-related search warrant at an Illinois home made an unexpected discovery when they found 76 dogs living in what authorities described as deplorable conditions.
The discovery was made on October 22, 2026, at a property on McCarthy Road in Lemont, a suburb southwest of Chicago. Officers were carrying out a search warrant connected to a firearms restraining order issued by a Cook County judge when they encountered the large number of dogs.
Authorities said the animals were living inside the house and garage in crowded, unsafe conditions. Three firearms were also recovered from the property.
Multiple agencies, including Lemont police, Cook County Animal Control and the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Animal Cruelty Unit, assisted in removing the dogs. Animal shelters and rescue organizations stepped in to take the animals into their care.
Photographs shared by a local animal rescue showed dirt and debris covering the floors and walls, with plastic containers apparently being used as makeshift dog beds. One rescue worker described the overwhelming conditions inside the property, saying the dogs were scattered throughout the house, garage, yard and bushes.
The homeowner, 58-year-old Andrew Malak, was arrested and charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty and felony weapons offenses, according to police.
Malak was subsequently released following a court appearance. He has disputed allegations concerning the dogs’ care, reportedly maintaining that the animals belonged to his nonprofit organization.
Rescue groups now face the difficult task of evaluating the dogs’ health and behavior. Some reportedly require additional socialization and individualized care before they can be considered for adoption.
The case has raised questions about how so many animals came to be living at the property and what their living conditions were like before authorities intervened. Those questions remain part of the broader investigation.

The charges against Malak are allegations and have not been proven in court.
