Lindsay Clancy’s Legal Battle Takes Another Turn as Judge Rejects Bid to Question Holdout Juror

A Massachusetts judge has rejected Lindsay Clancy’s request to question the lone holdout juror whose refusal to agree with the rest of the jury led to a mistrial in her high-profile triple-murder case.

The ruling, issued on October 21, 2026, marks another setback for Clancy’s defense team, which had sought to investigate the juror’s conduct and challenge the circumstances surrounding the collapse of the trial.

Clancy, a former nurse from Duxbury, Massachusetts, is accused of 𝘬iᩚlling her three young children — five-year-old Cora, three-year-old Dawson and eight-month-old Callan — at the family’s home on January 24, 2023. She has pleaded not guilty to three counts of murder and argued that she was not criminally responsible because of severe mєntal illness.

The seven-week trial ended in a mistrial on September 4 after jurors were unable to reach a unanimous verdict. According to reports, 11 of the 12 jurors favored finding Clancy not criminally responsible by reason of insanity, while one juror disagreed.

Her attorney, Kevin Reddington, subsequently asked the court to investigate the holdout juror, Michael Desronvil. The defense raised questions about whether he had accurately answered questions during jury selection, whether he used his cellphone during deliberations and whether he followed the judge’s instructions concerning reasonable doubt.

The defense argued that further examination could help establish whether the jury’s deadlock had been handled properly and whether the charges against Clancy should be dismissed.

Judge William Sullivan rejected the request for an evidentiary hearing, explaining that courts must not intrude into jurors’ private reasoning or deliberations. He also ruled that information about a juror that emerges only after a mistrial cannot be used to determine whether declaring that mistrial was necessary at the time.

The ruling does not, however, resolve the defense’s separate request to dismiss the murder charges on double-jeopardy grounds. That issue remains pending, with another hearing scheduled for November 2.

The case has drawn intense attention because of the competing accounts of Clancy’s mєntal state at the time of the deaths. Her defense has pointed to evidence of postpartum psychosis and other psychiatric symptoms, while prosecutors have argued that she should be held criminally responsible.

Clancy survived a sᩚuᩚiᩚcide attempt on the night her children died but was left paralyzed and now uses a wheelchair. The deaths and the subsequent legal proceedings have devastated the family and prompted wider discussion about maternal mєntal health and criminal responsibility.

Desronvil has publicly defended his position, saying he believed the evidence supported criminal responsibility. Clancy’s lawyers have challenged aspects of his conduct, but the judge’s latest ruling means they will not receive the requested hearing to question him about those concerns.

Whether prosecutors will retry Clancy remains uncertain. The next major development is expected to come from the court’s consideration of the outstanding motions in November.
