Boston Police 𝘴єx Scandal: Dispatcher Reveals Chilling Details in Trial of Ex-Officer Accused of 𝘬iᩚlling Sandra Birchmore

A former Massachusetts police officer is facing intense scrutiny as testimony in his murder trial reveals new details about his relationship with Sandra Birchmore, a pregnant 23-year-old woman whose dєatᩚh was initially ruled a sᩚuᩚiᩚcide.

Matthew Farwell, a former Stoughton police officer, is accused of strangling Birchmore in her Canton apartment in February 2021 and staging the scene to make her dєatᩚh appear self-inflicted. Prosecutors allege he killed her to prevent her from exposing a 𝘴єxual relationship that they say began when she was just 15 years old.

Farwell has pleaded not guilty. His defense maintains that Birchmore died by sᩚuᩚiᩚcide after their relationship broke down.

Dispatcher describes a tense encounter

One of the most significant developments came when Stoughton police dispatcher James Fitton testified about a conversation with Farwell in January 2021, less than two weeks before Birchmore died.

Fitton told jurors that a woman had contacted police to report an alleged 𝘴єxual relationship between the married officer and Birchmore. When he raised the matter with Farwell, the officer became visibly angry and told him not to discuss it again, according to the testimony.

Fitton also testified that a supervisor told him to forget about the report. Farwell later sent him a text message referring dismissively to the caller and Birchmore.

Prosecutors argue that the complaint was a turning point because Farwell feared the relationship would become public. The defense disputes the prosecution’s account of Birchmore’s dєatᩚh.

Thousands of messages under examination

Investigators have also examined thousands of text messages exchanged between Farwell and Birchmore. Prosecutors say the communications help establish the nature and duration of their relationship, including alleged 𝘴єxual contact that began when Birchmore was a minor.

FBI testimony has also addressed phone records and digital activity around the time of Birchmore’s dєatᩚh. Investigators testified about movement recorded by Birchmore’s phone and searches allegedly made on Farwell’s device after the incident.

Prosecutors contend that the digital evidence supports their theory that Farwell was involved in her dєatᩚh and attempted to conceal what happened. His attorneys maintain that the evidence does not prove murder.

Questions surrounding Birchmore’s pregnancy

Birchmore was pregnant when she died and reportedly believed Farwell was the father of her unborn child. However, DNA testing later excluded Farwell as the biological father.

An obstetrician who treated Birchmore testified that she had been monitoring the pregnancy and that the baby had been developing. The doctor also said Birchmore had discussed anxiety and pregnancy-related concerns, but did not appear to be experiencing the severe deterioration that some might expect before a sᩚuᩚiᩚcide.

The defense has pointed to Birchmore’s mєntal-health history and concerns about her pregnancy in support of its argument that she took her own life.

A case that has raised broader questions about police accountability

Birchmore met Farwell through a police youth program when she was a teenager. Prosecutors allege that he exploited the authority and access he had as an officer to groom and sexually 𝘢bu𝘴e her.

Her dєatᩚh initially received a different explanation from state authorities. Federal investigators later pursued the case as a homicide, leading to Farwell’s arrest and indictment in 2024.

The proceedings have also drawn attention to how earlier complaints about Birchmore’s relationship with officers were handled. The case has become a focus of public concern over the treatment of vulnerable young people and accountability within law enforcement.

As testimony continues, prosecutors are attempting to establish that Farwell killed Birchmore to prevent her from revealing alleged criminal conduct. The defense insists that the prosecution’s theory is wrong.

The jury must ultimately decide whether the evidence proves the charges beyond a reasonable doubt. Until a verdict is reached, Farwell remains accused rather than convicted of Birchmore’s murder.
