Husband Stands by Illinois Mom Accused of 𝘬iᩚlling Their Toddler as Her Defense Focuses on Psychosis

The husband of an Illinois mother accused of 𝘬iᩚlling their 2-year-old son continues to support her as she faces serious criminal charges, according to her defense attorney.

Corie Walsh, from Frankfort, Illinois, was charged with three counts of first-degree murder following the dєatᩚh of her young son, Barrett, on September 1, 2026. Prosecutors allege that the child was found hanging from a rafter in the basement of the family’s home.

According to court documents, a neighbor discovered the toddler and attempted CPR before emergency responders arrived. Walsh was reportedly found in an upstairs bathroom with self-inflicted injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The case has drawn additional attention because prosecutors say Walsh had become deeply interested in the high-profile trial of Massachusetts mother Lindsay Clancy, who was accused of 𝘬iᩚlling her three children. Investigators alleged that Walsh had been discussing Clancy’s case in a group chat with friends just hours before her son was found.

Prosecutors have also alleged that Walsh made statements about harming her husband and other children. Her husband was out of state when the incident occurred.

Walsh’s defense attorneys, however, argue that she was experiencing a severe psychotic episode and should not be viewed as having acted with the intent required for first-degree murder. They have rejected suggestions that her interest in the Clancy case was connected to the alleged 𝘬iᩚlling, describing that theory as unfounded.

Her husband and mother have expressed continued support for Walsh, according to her legal team. The defense has emphasized the need for psychiatric care while challenging the prosecution’s characterization of the case.

Walsh remains in custody as the legal proceedings continue. The allegations against her have not yet been resolved at trial, and her defense maintains that her mєntal state is central to understanding what happened.
