Christa Pike Survived Two Doses of lєthaℓ inje𝔠ti☉n — New Court Filing Reveals Chilling Details

New details have emerged about the failed exє𝔠uti☉n of Christa Pike in Tennessee, with a court filing alleging that exє𝔠uti☉n staff struggled repeatedly to establish intravenous lines before administering two doses of the lєthaℓ drug.

Pike, 50, was scheduled to be executed on September 30, 2026, for the 1995 torture and murder of her former classmate, Colleen Slemmer. However, the exє𝔠uti☉n was halted after Pike remained alive despite receiving two doses of pentobarbital, the drug used in Tennessee’s lєthaℓ-inje𝔠ti☉n protocol.

According to a filing by Pike’s attorney, Randy Spivey, the exє𝔠uti☉n team spent nearly an hour attempting to establish the required IV lines. They reportedly used approximately 10 needles and tried several locations on both arms.

The filing alleges that members of the team expressed concern that some of Pike’s veins might have ruptured during the repeated attempts. Pike later complained that her arm was burning and felt as though it was about to burst.

Her attorney described her making unusual snoring sounds and appearing to struggle to breathe after the injections. He eventually urged officials to stop the procedure and provide emergency medical assistance.

Pike was taken to a hospital in Nashville, where she was initially unconscious and placed on a ventilator. Her attorneys said medical staff worked to treat her ᑕriᩚtiᩚcal condition, while questions emerged over whether the IV lines had been correctly positioned and whether the drug had entered her bloodstream as intended.

Pike regained consciousness in early October and was discharged from hospital before returning to prison. Her attorneys have said that her recovery could be lengthy and that the long-term effects remain uncertain.

The failed exє𝔠uti☉n prompted Tennessee Governor Bill Lee to order an independent review and suspend the state’s remaining scheduled executions for the rest of 2026. The incident has also renewed scrutiny of the state’s lєthaℓ-inje𝔠ti☉n procedures.

Pike was 18 when she and her boyfriend tortured and killed 19-year-old Slemmer in Knoxville in 1995. The case resulted in Pike receiving a dєatᩚh sentence, and the failed exє𝔠uti☉n has left Slemmer’s family confronting another painful chapter in the decades-long case.

The latest court filing has raised further questions about what happened inside the exє𝔠uti☉n chamber and whether existing procedures were followed. The state has not publicly provided a complete explanation for the failure, and the independent review is expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the attempt.
