CHRISTa PIKE SPEAKS OUT ONE MONTH AFTER SURVIVING FAILED exє𝔠uti☉n: “THERE HASN’T BEEN A MOMENT WITHOUT PAIN”

The Tennessee dєatᩚh row inmate says she continues to suffer physical pain, emotional distress and isolation after surviving a lєthaℓ inje𝔠ti☉n attempt on September 30. In her first public statement since the incident, she also expressed sympathy for the family of the woman she was convicted of murdering.

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE — Christa Pike has spoken publicly for the first time since surviving a failed exє𝔠uti☉n in Tennessee, revealing that she remains in constant physical and emotional pain more than a month after the procedure.

In a statement released through her attorneys on Friday, October 30, 2026, the 50-year-old described ongoing discomfort in her body, arms, hands and throat. She also said she continues to struggle with speaking.

“There hasn’t been a moment since that night when I haven’t been in pain,” Pike said in the statement, which she dictated to her legal team from the prison infirmary.

“My body hurts. My arms hurt. My hands hurt. My throat hurts. I still struggle to speak. And the pain isn’t just physical. There is pain in my mind and in my soul.”

Her statement comes exactly one month after Tennessee attempted to carry out her dєatᩚh sentence on September 30. The procedure ended with Pike being taken to hospital in ᑕriᩚtiᩚcal condition rather than being pronounced dead.

Pike said she entered the exє𝔠uti☉n chamber at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution prepared to die.

She explained that she had already said goodbye to the people who had supported her throughout the years and had made peace with what she believed would be her final night.

“Several days later I woke up alone in a hospital confused and in pain,” she said.

Pike added that she had never imagined having to face life beyond her scheduled exє𝔠uti☉n date.

The experience has left her trying to understand what happened and what her future may now hold.

“I don’t know why I survived that night. I don’t know what comes next,” she said. “Some days, finding hope is harder than others. For now, I am trying to heal, one day at a time.”

WHAT HAPPENED DURING THE FAILED exє𝔠uti☉n?

Pike was scheduled to be executed by lєthaℓ inje𝔠ti☉n on September 30 for the 1995 murder of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer.

The procedure encountered serious difficulties as the exє𝔠uti☉n team attempted to establish an intravenous line. After a prolonged delay, officials administered two doses of pentobarbital.

However, Pike did not die.

She was eventually transported by ambulance to a Nashville hospital, where she received emergency medical treatment. Her attorneys later confirmed that she had regained consciousness and was beginning to recover.

Pike spent several days receiving hospital care before being transferred back to the Debra K. Johnson Rehabilitation Center on October 10. She is now receiving further medical care at the prison.

Her attorneys have described serious injuries to her arms following the procedure. The circumstances surrounding the failed inje𝔠ti☉n are now the subject of further scrutiny.

In her statement, Pike also expressed anger and disappointment over the way the exє𝔠uti☉n was carried out.

“I’m deeply hurt by the incompetence that has put so many people in this terrible position,” she said.

She did not, however, focus solely on her own suffering. Pike also addressed the family of Colleen Slemmer, acknowledging the loss they have endured.

“I continue to think about my victim’s family and the terrible pain and loss they have endured,” she said.

Slemmer was 19 when she was m𝑢rdєred in Knoxville, Tennessee, in January 1995. Pike was 18 at the time of the crime and was later convicted and sentenced to dєatᩚh.

ISOLATION HAS ADDED TO HER EMOTIONAL STRUGGLE

Pike also described the emotional impact of being held largely apart from other people while recovering in the prison infirmary.

According to her statement, the isolation has brought back difficult memories of the many years she previously spent in solitary confinement on dєatᩚh row.

She said the lack of human connection has become another source of distress during an already difficult recovery.

At the same time, Pike thanked the first responders, doctors and nurses who treated her after the failed procedure. She also expressed gratitude to her attorneys and people around the world who have sent messages of support.

She said knowing that others still see her as a human being whose life matters has been deeply meaningful.

TENNESSEE SUSPENDS EXECUTIONS AS INVESTIGATION CONTINUES

The failed exє𝔠uti☉n has raised serious questions about Tennessee’s lєthaℓ inje𝔠ti☉n procedures.

Governor Bill Lee has suspended executions in the state for the remainder of 2026 while an independent review examines what happened during Pike’s exє𝔠uti☉n attempt and a separate problem involving another scheduled exє𝔠uti☉n earlier in the year.

A Tennessee judge has also ordered state officials to preserve evidence connected to Pike’s case, including records relating to the procedure.

Pike’s attorneys have argued that the failed exє𝔠uti☉n violated constitutional protections against cruel and unusual punishment. They are also seeking to have her dєatᩚh sentence commuted to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.

However, Governor Lee has indicated that he expects her sentence to remain in place unless the courts determine otherwise.

AN UNCERTAIN FUTURE

For now, Pike remains in prison as she continues her recovery. It is not yet clear what legal steps Tennessee may take regarding her dєatᩚh sentence or whether another exє𝔠uti☉n attempt could eventually be scheduled.

Her first public statement has brought renewed attention to the case, which has become a major point of debate over the state’s exє𝔠uti☉n procedures.

Pike ended her message by saying she was holding on to the kindness and support she had received from people who reminded her that she was not alone.

“I don’t know what comes next,” she said.

For the family of Colleen Slemmer, the decades-old case continues to carry the pain of a loss that cannot be undone. For Pike, the failed exє𝔠uti☉n has opened an uncertain new chapter — one marked by ongoing recovery, legal challenges and unanswered questions.
