DOCTOR WHO OVERSAW CHRISTA PIKE’S BOTCHED exє𝔠uti☉n STILL WANTS HER PUT TO dєatᩚh

Dr. Mark Fowler says he believes the dєatᩚh sentence should still be carried out, despite the failed exє𝔠uti☉n that left Pike hospitalized and fighting to recover.

The Tennessee doctor who oversaw Christa Pike’s failed exє𝔠uti☉n has revealed that he still believes she should be put to dєatᩚh, just weeks after the unprecedented incident left the dєatᩚh row inmate hospitalized.

Dr. Mark Fowler, 69, was assigned to pronounce Pike dead during her scheduled exє𝔠uti☉n on September 30, 2026. But after two doses of pentobarbital were administered, Pike continued breathing.

Instead of being pronounced dead, the 50-year-old was eventually taken to hospital for emergency medical treatment.

In an interview with New York Magazine’s Intelligencer, Fowler discussed what happened inside the exє𝔠uti☉n chamber and defended his belief that Pike’s dєatᩚh sentence should ultimately be carried out.

Christa Gail Pike appears remotely from Deborah K. Johnson Rehabilitation for her hearing in Knox County Criminal Court in Knoxville, Tenn., on Aug. 11, 2026. Pike is set to be executed Sept. 30 for the 1995 murder of Colleen Slemmer.THE exє𝔠uti☉n THAT WENT WRONG

Pike’s exє𝔠uti☉n began at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville, Tennessee.

After receiving two doses of the lєthaℓ inje𝔠ti☉n drug pentobarbital, she did not die as expected.

Fowler recalled being called into the chamber after officials realized something was wrong. He said he initially believed Pike might simply need more time to respond to the medication.

However, she remained alive, and the exє𝔠uti☉n was eventually halted.

Investigators later determined that improperly placed intravenous lines had caused the drugs to enter the tissue in Pike’s arms rather than properly circulate through her bloodstream.

Fowler acknowledged that the team should have stopped and reassessed the situation when Pike complained that her arm was hurting.

He also said he became concerned that she could suffer irreversible brain damage if the procedure continued.

Pike was transported to hospital, where she received emergency treatment. She survived and was later returned to prison.

Despite the failed procedure, Fowler said he still wants Pike’s exє𝔠uti☉n to proceed.

Part of his reasoning, he explained, was his belief that justice should be served for the family of Colleen Slemmer, the 19-year-old woman Pike was convicted of murdering in 1995.

Fowler also defended his involvement in executions, rejecting criticism of his role and insisting that he remained committed to what he considers a lawful responsibility.

He suggested Tennessee should reconsider its lєthaℓ-inje𝔠ti☉n protocol, saying he preferred an older three-drug combination rather than the single-drug pentobarbital method used in Pike’s exє𝔠uti☉n.

His comments have renewed questions about the circumstances of the failed procedure and whether Tennessee could attempt to execute Pike again.

PIKE SPEAKS OUT ABOUT HER PAIN

On October 30, Pike issued her first public statement since surviving the exє𝔠uti☉n attempt.

She described ongoing physical pain, saying her body, arms, hands and throat continued to hurt. She also said she was still struggling to speak.

Pike explained that she had entered the exє𝔠uti☉n chamber prepared to die and had not imagined a life beyond that night.

She also acknowledged the suffering of Colleen Slemmer’s family, saying she continued to think about the pain and loss they had endured.

Her statement described the emotional and psychological impact of waking up in hospital after the failed procedure.

TENNESSEE HALTS EXECUTIONS THROUGH THE END OF 2026

Following the incident, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee ordered a pause on executions through the end of 2026 and requested an independent review of the failed procedure.

Pike’s dєatᩚh sentence has not been overturned, and no new exє𝔠uti☉n date has been announced.

Her attorneys are expected to continue challenging the state’s exє𝔠uti☉n procedures and any future attempt to carry out the sentence.

For now, the case remains under scrutiny, with serious questions about what happened inside the exє𝔠uti☉n chamber and what comes next for Christa Pike.

The failed exє𝔠uti☉n has left both the state’s procedures and the future of Pike’s dєatᩚh sentence facing renewed attention.
