CHRISTa PIKE BREAKS HER SILENCE ONE MONTH AFTER BOTCHED exє𝔠uti☉n: “I DON’T KNOW WHY I SURVIVED THAT NIGHT”

The Tennessee dєatᩚh row inmate says she remains in constant physical and emotional pain after surviving a failed lєthaℓ inje𝔠ti☉n attempt — and admits she is still trying to understand what happened.

One month after surviving a failed exє𝔠uti☉n in Tennessee, Christa Pike has spoken publicly for the first time about the ordeal, describing ongoing pain, emotional distress and uncertainty about what lies ahead.

In a statement released through her legal team on October 30, Pike said she had entered the exє𝔠uti☉n chamber on September 30 believing she was about to die. She had said her goodbyes and made peace with the possibility that she would not leave the prison alive.

“Several days later I woke up alone in a hospital confused and in pain,” she said.

Pike, 50, described experiencing pain throughout her body, including her arms, hands and throat. She also said she continues to struggle to speak.

“There hasn’t been a moment since that night when I haven’t been in pain,” she stated. “And the pain isn’t just physical. There is pain in my mind and in my soul.”

The exє𝔠uti☉n attempt took place at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Tennessee on September 30. Pike was administered two doses of pentobarbital, the drug used in the state’s lєthaℓ inje𝔠ti☉n procedure, but the process was halted after she did not die.

She was taken to hospital for emergency medical treatment and remained there for several days before being transferred back into the state’s prison medical system.

Pike blamed what she described as “incompetence” for the failed procedure, saying she had never considered what life might look like after that night.

“I had not contemplated life beyond that night,” she said.

Her attorneys have raised concerns about how the intravenous line was placed during the exє𝔠uti☉n attempt. They have suggested that the drug may have entered surrounding tissue rather than being properly delivered into her bloodstream. The precise circumstances remain under scrutiny.

Pike’s statement also acknowledged the suffering of Colleen Slemmer’s family.

Slemmer, 19, was Pike’s classmate and was killed in Knoxville, Tennessee, in 1995. Pike was 18 at the time and was later convicted of the crime and sentenced to dєatᩚh.

“I continue to think about my victim’s family and the terrible pain and loss they have endured,” Pike said.

She also thanked the first responders, doctors, nurses and hospital staff who treated her, as well as her attorneys and people who have offered support.

Pike said she is recovering and believes she is gradually getting stronger, but stressed that recovery does not mean she is fully well.

She also described being largely isolated in the prison medical ward since returning from hospital. The isolation, she said, has brought additional emotional difficulty after spending 28 years in solitary confinement on dєatᩚh row.

The failed exє𝔠uti☉n has raised questions about Tennessee’s lєthaℓ inje𝔠ti☉n procedures. Governor Bill Lee has ordered a review of the incident and paused further executions while the matter is examined.

It remains unclear whether or when Tennessee could attempt to carry out Pike’s sentence again. Her legal team continues to challenge the circumstances surrounding the September 30 procedure.

In closing her statement, Pike said she is still searching for meaning in what happened.

“I don’t know why I survived that night. I don’t know what comes next,” she said. “For now, I am trying to heal, one day at a time.”

Her statement marks the first time she has publicly described the physical and emotional impact of the failed exє𝔠uti☉n — while the legal and official questions surrounding the incident remain unresolved.
