The familiar face from the popular Yorkshire farm has received an outpouring of support after her husband’s diagnosis, with more than 1,100 people contributing to a fundraiser for the family.

Farmer Ruth Burgess, known to followers of Cannon Hall Farm in South Yorkshire, is facing an incredibly difficult time with her family after her husband, Dave, was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.

The news was shared through a fundraising appeal launched on July 10, 2026, to support Ruth, Dave and their two sons as they navigate the challenges ahead.

According to the appeal, Dave is undergoing intensive treatment, including daily chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

The fundraiser was organised by Jacqui Tymon on behalf of Maryann Bestford, with the aim of easing some of the practical and financial pressures facing the family and allowing them to concentrate on treatment and spending time together.

A FAMILIAR FACE TO THE CANNON HALL FARM COMMUNITY

Cannon Hall Farm, located in Cawthorne near Barnsley, has become a popular visitor attraction and a familiar presence on television and social media.

Through her connection with the farm, Ruth has built a relationship with many people who follow its animals, farmers and everyday stories.

Now, that community is showing its support during a deeply personal chapter of her life.

The response has demonstrated how a connection built through years of sharing everyday moments can turn into meaningful support when a family faces a serious challenge.

THE FAMILY IS TAKING THINGS DAY BY DAY

A serious diagnosis affects not only the person receiving treatment but also the people closest to them.

For Ruth, Dave and their two sons, the coming months bring uncertainty, difficult adjustments and the challenge of balancing treatment with family life.

The family has not publicly shared extensive additional medical details, and the fundraiser remains the main source of information about Dave’s diagnosis and treatment.

For now, their focus is on supporting one another, continuing treatment and making the most of their time together.

Ruth’s message has stayed simple: there are difficult days ahead, but they will keep going.

As supporters continue to send messages and contributions, the family is being reminded that many people are standing beside them during this difficult time.
