CHRISTa PIKE BREAKS SILENCE ONE MONTH AFTER BOTCHED exє𝔠uti☉n, SAYING SHE IS STILL IN CONSTANT PAIN

The Tennessee dєatᩚh row inmate says she entered the exє𝔠uti☉n chamber prepared to die, but woke up days later in a hospital, confused and suffering physical and emotional pain.

Christa Pike has spoken publicly for the first time since surviving a failed exє𝔠uti☉n in Tennessee, revealing that she continues to experience constant pain more than a month after the state attempted to put her to dєatᩚh.

In a statement released by her attorneys on October 30, Pike, 50, described the physical and emotional aftermath of the September 30 lєthaℓ inje𝔠ti☉n attempt.

She said she had entered the exє𝔠uti☉n chamber prepared to die and had made peace with what she believed would be her final moments.

Instead, she woke up several days later in a hospital, confused and in pain.

“There hasn’t been a moment since that night when I haven’t been in pain,” Pike said.

“My body hurts. My arms hurt. My hands hurt. My throat hurts. I still struggle to speak. And the pain isn’t just physical. There is pain in my mind and in my soul.”

Her statement marks the first time she has addressed the failed exє𝔠uti☉n publicly.

Pike was scheduled to be executed at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville on September 30 for the 1995 torture and murder of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer.

The exє𝔠uti☉n team struggled to establish intravenous lines before administering two doses of pentobarbital, the drug used in Tennessee’s lєthaℓ inje𝔠ti☉n protocol.

According to accounts from her attorneys and witnesses, Pike complained that her arm was burning and felt as though it was about to burst during the procedure.

She continued breathing after both doses, and the exє𝔠uti☉n was halted. She was eventually taken by ambulance to a hospital for emergency treatment.

Pike spent several days unconscious and on a ventilator. Her attorneys later described severe injuries to her arms, including burns and blistering.

Medical experts have raised concerns that the IV lines may not have been properly placed, potentially allowing the drug to leak into surrounding tissue rather than enter her bloodstream. The precise circumstances remain under investigation.

In her statement, Pike said she had never considered the possibility of living beyond her scheduled exє𝔠uti☉n date.

“I had not contemplated life beyond that night,” she said.

She also expressed concern for Slemmer’s family, acknowledging the suffering and loss they have endured since the 1995 𝘬iᩚlling.

“I’m deeply hurt by the incompetence that has put so many people in this terrible position,” Pike said. “I continue to think about my victim’s family and the terrible pain and loss they have endured.”

Pike thanked the first responders, doctors and nurses who treated her after the failed exє𝔠uti☉n, saying they showed her compassion and respect.

She also acknowledged the support she has received from people around the world.

“I don’t know why I survived that night. I don’t know what comes next,” she said.

“For now, I am trying to heal, one day at a time.”

HER FUTURE REMAINS UNCERTAIN

Following the failed exє𝔠uti☉n, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee ordered a pause on executions through the end of 2026 while an independent review examines what happened.

The state has not announced a new exє𝔠uti☉n date for Pike.

Lee previously rejected her request for clemency, which would have changed her dєatᩚh sentence to life imprisonment. After the failed attempt, he told reporters that he expected her sentence to remain unchanged unless the courts determined otherwise.

Pike’s attorneys have also challenged aspects of her treatment after the exє𝔠uti☉n attempt, including her confinement in the prison medical ward.

Her legal team says she has been kept largely isolated from other inmates despite a previous settlement concerning her prison conditions.

THE CASE THAT LED TO HER dєatᩚh SENTENCE

Pike was 18 when she took part in the January 1995 𝘬iᩚlling of Colleen Slemmer, a 19-year-old classmate in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Pike, her then-boyfriend Tadaryl Shipp and another person lured Slemmer into a wooded area, where she was tortured and killed.

Pike and Shipp were convicted of first-degree murder. Shipp received a life sentence because he was 17 at the time of the crime.

Pike was sentenced to dєatᩚh and spent decades on dєatᩚh row.

Now, after surviving the state’s failed attempt to carry out that sentence, she says she is still struggling with pain, isolation and uncertainty about what comes next.

Her statement closes with a message about the support she has received as she tries to recover.

“Some days, finding hope is harder than others,” she said. “For now, I am trying to heal, one day at a time.”
