A 28-year-old woman is fighting for her life after being stabbed multiple times in the neck while jogging along a waterfront running path in Brooklyn, New York.
Katie Suarez was running along the Shore Parkway Greenway in the Bath Beach neighborhood shortly after 8 p.m. on Friday, October 30, when she was attacked near Bay Parkway and Cropsey Avenue.
According to police, Suarez was running alone when someone approached and stabbed her in the neck. She was rushed to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, where she was initially listed in ᑕriᩚtiᩚcal condition.
Suarez had reportedly been training for the New York City Marathon, which took place on Sunday, November 1.
HER FATHER FOUND HER AFTER SHE NEVER ARRIVED
One of the most heartbreaking details of the case is that Suarez’s father was the person who found her.
Earlier that evening, she had spoken with her parents by phone and reportedly told them she was about half a mile away from their planned meeting point.
When she failed to arrive and stopped answering their calls, her family became increasingly worried.
Her father went looking for her and eventually found her collapsed on the path near Bay 17th Street. He called for help, and emergency responders rushed her to the hospital.
Reports citing sources familiar with the investigation say Suarez managed to run a short distance after the attack before collapsing.

As of November 2, Suarez remains on life support, according to sources cited by local media.
Some reports have said she was declared brain dead. However, police publicly described her condition as grave and critically serious on Sunday, and the reported diagnosis has not been confirmed in a public statement from her doctors or hospital.
Her family is facing an agonizing situation as she remains hospitalized. ”
POLICE SEARCH FOR THE ATTACKER
The NYPD has launched an extensive investigation, deploying officers and specialist teams to search the area.
Investigators have used K-9 units, drones and divers as they look for evidence and try to reconstruct what happened. Police have also released Suarez’s photograph and are appealing for witnesses.

Police are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who may have seen Suarez between 7:56 p.m. and 8:12 p.m. on October 30, along the eastbound bike path near the Belt Parkway between Bay 8th Street and Bay 17th Street.
