BROOKLYN JOGGER, 28, STABBED IN NECK WHILE RUNNING — HER FATHER FOUND HER AFTER SHE FAILED TO MEET HER PARENTS
Katie Suarez was attacked along a popular waterfront running path just minutes after speaking with her father. Police are searching for the person responsible.
A 28-year-old woman is fighting for her life after being stabbed multiple times in the neck while jogging along a waterfront path in Brooklyn, New York.
Katie Suarez was attacked at approximately 8 p.m. on Friday, October 30, along the Shore Parkway Greenway in the Bath Beach neighborhood.
Her father later found her injured near Bay 17th Street and Shore Parkway after she failed to arrive at a meeting place she had arranged with her parents.
According to reports citing sources familiar with the investigation, Katie had spoken with her father by phone shortly before the attack. She reportedly told him she was about half a mile away and expected to meet her parents shortly.
When she did not arrive and stopped answering calls, her parents became worried and began searching for her.
Her father eventually discovered her with multiple stab wounds and called for emergency assistance. She was rushed to NYU Langone Hospital for treatment.
A familiar evening routine turned into a nightmare
Katie had finished work at a TD Bank branch earlier that evening. According to reports, she met her mother outside the bank at around 6:30 p.m., as the family often did after her shift.
She had changed into her running clothes and set off for a solo jog while waiting for her father to join them.
The waterfront route along the Belt Parkway was familiar to her and regularly used by runners, cyclists, walkers and fishermen.
At approximately 8 p.m., her father called to arrange where they would meet. Katie reportedly reassured him that she was only about half a mile away.
It was the last known conversation her parents had with her before discovering that something was terribly wrong.
According to sources cited by the New York Post, Katie managed to run approximately 100 feet after the attack before collapsing.
Conflicting reports about her medical condition
Katie was initially described by police as being in ᑕriᩚtiᩚcal condition after being transported to hospital.
On Sunday, November 1, NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny told NBC New York that she remained in “grave condition” and was “still in very ᑕriᩚtiᩚcal condition.”
Separately, the New York Post reported, citing law-enforcement sources, that Katie had been declared brain-dead and remained on life support at NYU Langone Hospital.
The police department has not publicly confirmed that medical description in its statements.
Her family and loved ones are facing an agonizing wait as investigators continue working to establish exactly what happened.
Police believe the attack may have been random
Investigators are examining the possibility that Katie was attacked at random.
According to sources cited by the New York Post, her phone and jewelry were still with her, and investigators had not identified evidence suggesting a robbery or 𝘴єxual motive.
However, police have not publicly established a motive or identified a suspect.
The NYPD has deployed specialized teams, including aviation units, K-9 officers, divers and drones, as part of the investigation.
Chief of Detectives Kenny has also appealed to drivers who were travelling along the Belt Parkway that evening to come forward if they noticed anything unusual.
Public urged to help identify the attacker
Police are asking anyone who was in the area between approximately 7:56 p.m. and 8:12 p.m. on Friday, October 30, to share information.
Investigators are particularly interested in sightings or unusual activity near the eastbound bike path along the Belt Parkway, between Bay 8th Street and Bay 17th Street.
Anyone with information can contact the NYPD Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). Spanish-speaking callers can use 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).

As the investigation continues, Katie’s family and the Brooklyn community are left hoping for answers after a routine evening run turned into a devastating tᩚraɢedy.
