“BEAUTIFUL” SAL GALLOWAY diᩚєs AFTER BEING SWEPT OUT TO SEA DURING STORM WHILE WALKING HER DOG

The woman in her 50s was caught in dangerous coastal conditions on the Isle of Wight. Friends and relatives have paid heartfelt tributes as authorities warn the public to stay away from exposed coastal paths during severe weather.

A Morning Walk Turns Into tᩚraɢedy

A woman has died after being swept into the sea while reportedly walking her dog along the coast during severe storm conditions in southern England.

Sal Galloway, who was in her 50s, was walking along the coastal promenade between Sandown and Shanklin on the Isle of Wight on Monday, October 26, when the tᩚraɢedy occurred.

Emergency services were alerted at approximately 11:17 a.m. after concerns were raised about a woman in the water near Lake.

Police officers, paramedics, Coastguard Rescue Teams, a lifeboat and a rescue helicopter were sent to the scene in a major search-and-rescue operation.

Despite their efforts, the woman could not be saved. Her body was recovered from the water shortly after midday, south of Sandown Pier.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary confirmed that her next of kin had been informed and that a report would be prepared for the coroner.

News of Sal’s dєatᩚh prompted an outpouring of grief from relatives, friends and people who knew her through the local community.

One relative paid tribute to her as a “beautiful” cousin, expressing disbelief at the sudden loss and sharing a heartfelt farewell.

Another person who knew her remembered her as a lovely woman who always had time for others, while members of the scootering community reflected on the friendships she had built over the years.

Others described her as a cherished childhood friend whose absence would be deeply felt.

The messages painted a picture of a woman who had touched many lives through her friendships and everyday kindness.

For those mourning her, the suddenness of the tᩚraɢedy has made the loss especially difficult to comprehend.

The incident happened as Storm Boelo brought powerful winds and hazardous conditions to parts of the United Kingdom.

Reports said gusts reached approximately 84 mph in some areas during the severe weather. Large waves and rough seas made exposed coastal locations particularly dangerous.

The Isle of Wight Council had issued safety warnings urging residents and visitors to exercise extreme caution near beaches, sea walls and coastal paths.

Authorities warned that waves can surge unexpectedly across promenades and sea defences, reaching areas that may appear safe from a distance.

Dog walkers were also advised to keep their pets on leads and avoid exposed stretches of coastline when conditions are dangerous.

A Major Emergency Response

The rescue operation involved several emergency services working together to search the waters off the Isle of Wight.

A Coastguard helicopter was deployed, while a lifeboat and specialist rescue teams assisted with the search.

Police established a cordon near Sandown Esplanade, temporarily restricting access to part of the coastal walkway while the operation was underway.

The woman was recovered from the water south of Sandown Pier, but emergency responders were unable to save her.

Authorities have not publicly established every detail of how she entered the water. Although reports said she was believed to have been walking her dog, the circumstances remain subject to further enquiries.

The status of the dog was not confirmed in the initial reports.

Police Prepare a Report for the Coroner

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary confirmed that the woman’s family had been notified and that a file would be prepared for the coroner.

While Sal Galloway was named in media reports and tributes shared by people who knew her, the initial police statement did not formally identify the deceased.

The coroner’s process will help establish the circumstances surrounding the dєatᩚh.

No further conclusions should be drawn about precisely what happened until the relevant enquiries have been completed.

A Tragic Reminder of the Sea’s Power

The tᩚraɢedy has renewed warnings about the dangers of walking close to the sea during and after severe weather.

Even experienced coastal walkers can be caught off guard by powerful waves, particularly when strong winds and high seas combine.

The Isle of Wight Council urged people to keep well away from sea walls, slipways, cliff edges and exposed coastal paths when conditions are dangerous. Anyone who sees someone in difficulty in the water should call 999 and ask for the Coastguard rather than entering hazardous water themselves.

For Sal’s family and friends, however, the focus is on remembering a much-loved woman whose life ended suddenly during an ordinary walk.

As tributes continue to be shared, those who knew her are left with memories of her warmth, kindness and the connections she made throughout her life.

May Sal Galloway rest in peace. Our thoughts are with her loved ones as they face this heartbreaking loss. 🤍
