PILOT JEFF GREGORY, 55, IDENTIFIED AFTER diᩚadℓy FLORIDA LEARJET 𝔠r𝘢sh — HIS CHILDHOOD DREAM OF FLYING AND FINAL MOMENTS LEAVE FRIENDS HEARTBROKEN

The husband and father of three had spent much of his life pursuing aviation. Now, those who knew him are remembering the man behind the pilot’s seat as tributes emerge following the tᩚraɢedy that claimed nine lives.

Jeff Gregory, 55, has been identified as the captain of the Learjet 60 that crashed in Palm Beach County, Florida, on Sunday, November 1, 2026, 𝘬iᩚlling all nine people aboard.

As more details about the tᩚraɢedy emerge, attention is turning toward the man behind the controls — a devoted husband, father of three, and lifelong aviation enthusiast whose childhood dream eventually became his profession.

For friends who knew Jeff long before he entered the cockpit, his passing is not simply the loss of an experienced pilot. It is the loss of someone whose faith, determination, and love for flying had shaped nearly every chapter of his life.

A childhood dream that became a lifelong career

Originally from Pennsylvania, Jeff grew up in a close-knit Christian community. According to a longtime friend and former neighbor, their families knew one another well, with both sets of parents working at a chapel.

The two boys attended the same small Christian school and shared many memories from their childhood.

His friend recalled Jeff’s distinctive love for a leather bomber jacket and, perhaps more importantly, his fascination with airplanes.

Even when he was very young, aviation was something Jeff dreamed about pursuing. What began as a childhood interest never faded as he grew older.

During the 1990s, Jeff began flight training, taking the first steps toward turning that early ambition into a career.

Over time, he built a life around aviation, transforming the dream he had carried since childhood into his profession.

Those who knew him described him as hardworking, dependable, and deeply committed to the things that mattered to him.

A husband, father, and man of faith

Away from the cockpit, Jeff was a family man.

He was married to his wife, Cheryl, and was the father of three children. Friends described his Christian faith as one of the defining parts of his identity, something that had been important to him since childhood.

His relationship with faith was not simply something he spoke about. It was a constant presence throughout his life.

For the people closest to him, the memories of Jeff extend far beyond his work as a pilot. They remember a husband, a father, a childhood friend, and a man who pursued the things he loved with dedication.

Now, those memories have become especially precious to the family and friends left behind.

The final moments of the Learjet flight

The 𝔠r𝘢sh occurred around 12:50 p.m. on November 1, when the Learjet 60 went down near Greenacres in Palm Beach County.

The aircraft had departed Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and was traveling to North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas.

There were nine people aboard: two flight crew members and seven passengers. All nine lost their lives.

In the minutes before the 𝔠r𝘢sh, the crew communicated with air traffic controllers about deteriorating flight conditions.

According to information presented by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the pilots reported light icing, moderate turbulence, and precipitation while the aircraft was flying at approximately 35,000 feet.

The crew requested permission to climb to 37,000 feet.

But shortly afterward, the situation deteriorated rapidly. Radio communications captured the aircraft descending at an alarming rate as the crew declared an emergency and issued Mayday calls.

One of the final transmissions included the words, “We’re going to 𝔠r𝘢sh into the ground.”

Air traffic controllers continued trying to communicate with the aircraft, but the transmission eventually went silent.

A prayer heard amid the final radio transmissions

One particularly heartbreaking detail has drawn attention following the release of audio from the flight’s final radio communications.

A male voice can reportedly be heard reciting portions of the Lord’s Prayer as the aircraft rapidly lost altitude.

Some reports have attributed that voice to Jeff Gregory, although the identity of the speaker has not been independently confirmed by investigators.

For many who have heard the recording, the reported prayer has added another deeply emotional dimension to an already devastating tᩚraɢedy.

It has also brought renewed attention to Jeff’s lifelong Christian faith — a part of his identity that friends say had been with him since childhood.

The radio recording is not the same as an officially recovered cockpit voice recorder. Investigators are still examining whether the aircraft’s cockpit voice recorder remained aboard and can provide additional information.

His church remembers a man who has gone home to the Lord

Following the tᩚraɢedy, Jeff’s church shared a message mourning his passing and remembering his faith.

The tribute described him as someone who had gone home to be with the Lord, reflecting the religious beliefs that had remained central to his life.

For his church community, the loss is deeply personal. For his wife Cheryl, their three children, and the friends who shared years of memories with him, the grief is immeasurable.

The people remembering Jeff are choosing to focus not only on the tragic circumstances of his final flight, but also on the life he lived before it.

He was a little boy who dreamed of flying, a young man who pursued that dream through years of training, and an adult who built his career around the skies.

Investigation into the 𝔠r𝘢sh continues

The NTSB is leading the investigation into the Learjet 60 𝔠r𝘢sh, with assistance from the Federal Aviation Administration.

During a November 2 briefing, investigators said they were examining the aircraft’s reported icing conditions, moderate turbulence, and rapid descent. They also indicated that there was evidence the aircraft may have begun breaking apart before hitting the ground.

The precise cause of the 𝔠r𝘢sh has not yet been determined.

Investigators are continuing to examine the wreckage, aircraft systems, weather conditions, and available flight data to establish what happened during the aircraft’s final moments.

As the investigation moves forward, Jeff Gregory’s story is being remembered through the people who knew him best.

His childhood dream took him into the skies, but his legacy, to those who loved him, will be found in the family he raised, the friendships he built, and the faith he carried throughout his life.

He was more than the captain of a flight that never reached its destination.

He was a husband, a father, a friend, and a man whose lifelong dream was to fly.
