“HE DREAMED OF FLYING SINCE HE WAS A LITTLE BOY”: PILOT JEFF GREGORY, 55, REMEMBERED FOR HIS FAITH, FAMILY AND LOVE OF AVIATION

“HE DREAMED OF FLYING SINCE HE WAS A LITTLE BOY”: PILOT JEFF GREGORY, 55, REMEMBERED FOR HIS FAITH, FAMILY AND LOVE OF AVIATION

As loved ones share memories of the Pennsylvania father of three, a deeply moving detail from the Learjet’s final radio communications has drawn attention to the faith that was central to his life.

As the nine victims of the November 1 Learjet 60 𝔠r𝘢sh in Palm Beach County, Florida, are remembered, more details are emerging about the life of the man at the controls.

Captain Jeff Gregory, 55, was more than an experienced pilot. To those who knew him, he was a devoted husband, a father of three, a lifelong Christian and a man who had dreamed of flying since childhood.

Originally from Pennsylvania, Gregory was married to his wife, Cheryl. Friends and family have described him as hardworking, dependable and deeply committed to the people and beliefs that shaped his life.

A childhood dream that became a lifelong career

One of Gregory’s longtime friends and former neighbors recently shared memories of their childhood together.

The two boys grew up in the same community, attended a small Christian school and were connected through their families’ involvement with a local chapel.

Even as a child, Gregory had a fascination with aviation. His friend remembered his love for a leather bomber jacket and how becoming a pilot was something he talked about long before he ever entered a cockpit.

In the 1990s, Gregory began flight training. What had once been a childhood ambition gradually became his profession and a defining part of his adult life.

For decades, he continued pursuing the career he had dreamed of as a boy.

Those who remembered him described a man who was diligent, reliable and willing to work hard—qualities that stayed with him throughout his life.

His faith was always part of who he was

Gregory had been a devoted Christian since childhood. His connection to faith was not simply something people learned about after the tᩚraɢedy; it had been part of his life for as long as those closest to him could remember.

Limerick Chapel in Pennsylvania, where he had grown up, also shared a message mourning his passing. The church remembered him with words of faith, saying that he had gone home to be with the Lord.

That message has taken on an especially emotional meaning as people reflect on the final moments of the flight.

A prayer heard in the final radio communications

In recordings of the aircraft’s final communications with air traffic control, a male voice can be heard reciting words from the Lord’s Prayer as the Learjet descended rapidly.

Several reports have identified the voice as Gregory’s, although that identification has not been independently confirmed by investigators.

The recording captures the increasingly urgent situation in the cockpit. The crew reported dangerous descent rates and declared an emergency as they struggled to manage the aircraft.

The Learjet 60 crashed in Palm Beach County on November 1, 𝘬iᩚlling all nine people aboard.

For those who knew Gregory as a man whose Christian faith had guided him since childhood, the reported prayer has become an especially poignant part of the story.

Remembering the man beyond the tᩚraɢedy

Behind the headlines and the aircraft involved in the 𝔠r𝘢sh was a husband, a father and a friend whose life stretched far beyond his final flight.

Jeff Gregory had a childhood dream, a family he loved and a faith that remained important to him throughout his life.

His wife, Cheryl, and their three children are now facing an unimaginable loss. Friends, former neighbors and members of his church are remembering the boy who dreamed of becoming a pilot—and the man who spent his life doing what he had once imagined.

As investigators continue examining what happened aboard the Learjet, those who loved Gregory are left holding onto memories of the person he was.

May his family find strength and comfort in the days ahead, and may Jeff Gregory be remembered not only for the tragic flight that ended his life, but for the years, relationships and dreams that came before it.
