“I KNEW A PLANE WOULD TAKE HER FROM ME”: MOTHER’S HEARTBREAKING TRIBUTE TO 20-YEAR-OLD PILOT KILLED IN FLORIDA JET 𝔠r𝘢sh
Camila had always feared that her daughter’s love of flying might one day lead to an unimaginable loss. Despite that fear, she says she could not have been prouder of Nathalia, who was pursuing the career she had dreamed of since childhood.
The mother of Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras, a 20-year-old co-pilot aboard the Learjet 60 that crashed in Palm Beach County, Florida, has shared an emotional tribute to her daughter.
“I knew a plane would take her from me. I always knew, but I was so proud of her. I know she was living her dream,” Camila told the New York Post.
Her heartbreaking words reveal the fear she had carried for years as her daughter pursued a career in aviation, as well as the immense pride she felt watching Nathalia turn her ambition into reality.
HER FINAL MESSAGE CAME JUST 10 MINUTES BEFORE THE 𝔠r𝘢sh
According to Nathalia’s 44-year-old stepfather, Thiago Corteleti, the young pilot was still communicating with loved ones shortly before the aircraft went down.
Corteleti told the New York Post that Nathalia had sent a message to her boyfriend at approximately 12:40 p.m. The 𝔠r𝘢sh occurred around 12:50 p.m.
“She just said: ‘I have turbulence, I have ice,’” he recalled.
Those words have taken on a heartbreaking significance for her family, who now know that the message came only minutes before the tᩚraɢedy.
For her loved ones, the brief communication represents one of their final connections with a young woman who had so much more life ahead of her.
A YOUNG WOMAN WHO HAD ALREADY ACHIEVED SO MUCH
Nathalia had dedicated years to building her future in aviation.
She attended flight school, later worked as a flight instructor, and eventually began her career as a commercial pilot.
According to her family, she had accumulated approximately 1,300 flight hours and had been working professionally as a commercial pilot for nine months.
She was expected to celebrate her 21st birthday in January.
For Nathalia, flying was more than a job. It was the dream she had worked tirelessly to achieve.
Her mother understood the risks that came with the profession, but she also saw how much happiness and purpose her daughter found in the skies.
CREW REPORTED ICE AND TURBULENCE BEFORE THE FINAL MAYDAY CALL
Air traffic control recordings captured the crew reporting icing conditions and moderate turbulence before declaring an emergency.
The pilots reportedly issued a Mayday call and informed controllers that the aircraft was descending uncontrollably.
In the final moments, the crew warned that they were going to hit the ground.
The last reported transmission was: “We’re out of time.”
The Learjet 60 crashed in Palm Beach County, Florida, on November 1, 2026. All nine people aboard were reported to have lost their lives.
The circumstances surrounding the 𝔠r𝘢sh remain a matter of investigation.
SHE WAS LIVING THE DREAM HER MOTHER WAS SO PROUD OF
Nathalia’s story is especially heartbreaking because she was so young and had already accomplished so much.
She had built a career around something she loved, gained extensive flying experience, and was beginning to establish herself as a commercial pilot.
Her family had watched her grow from a young woman with an aviation dream into a professional pilot.
Although Camila had always feared that flying could one day take her daughter away, she never stopped supporting or celebrating her achievements.
Now, that pride is accompanied by an unimaginable sense of loss.
A FAMILY LEFT WITH MEMORIES AND FINAL WORDS
For Camila and the rest of Nathalia’s family, the days ahead will be filled with memories of the daughter, stepdaughter, and loved one they lost.
They will remember her determination, her passion for aviation, and the happiness she found doing what she loved.
She was supposed to celebrate another birthday in January. Instead, her family is left holding onto the memories of a life that ended far too soon.
Her mother’s words capture the painful contradiction at the heart of this story: she feared the risks of her daughter’s dream, yet she was immensely proud that Nathalia had the courage to pursue it.
Nathalia was only 20, but she had already made her dream a reality. She will be remembered not only for the way her story ended, but for the passion, ambition, and love of flying that defined her life.
May Nathalia and all eight others aboard the aircraft rest in peace. May their families find strength and comfort during this devastating time. 🕊️
