HE DREAMED OF BECOMING A DOCTOR — BUT 15-YEAR-OLD JAVITS FRIMPONG NEVER GOT THE CHANCE TO GROW UP

He had moved from Ghana to New York just one year earlier, hoping to build a brighter future with his father. But a terrifying incident on his way to school in the Bronx ended his young life. Now, his father is left mourning the dreams they had once shared.

THE BRONX, NEW YORK — November 4, 2026

A 15-year-old boy who dreamed of becoming a doctor was killed while walking to school in the Bronx, leaving his family and community devastated.

Javits Frimpong had moved from Ghana to the United States in 2025 to reunite with his father, Thomas Frimpong, and pursue the opportunities he believed awaited him in America.

He was described by his father as a quiet, intelligent, and precious child who had so much potential.

But on the morning of Thursday, October 29, those hopes were shattered.

Javits was walking to school when he was attacked and shot near East 171st Street and Crotona Place in the Claremont neighborhood of the Bronx.

He was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital by responding police officers but later died from his injuries.

He was only 15 years old.

The circumstances surrounding Javits’s final moments have left investigators and the community searching for answers.

Surveillance footage obtained by CBS News New York reportedly shows the teenager running for his life as another individual, dressed in black, follows him.

Moments later, Javits can be seen collapsing.

The disturbing footage has intensified calls for justice as police continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the śh́óóting.

Authorities are searching for three teenage individuals believed to be connected to the incident.

As of November 4, no arrests had been announced, and investigators had not publicly established a motive.

HIS FATHER SAYS HIS SON HAD REPORTED BEING BULLIED

In the days before the tᩚraɢedy, Javits had reportedly been dealing with problems at school.

His father, Thomas, told CBS News New York that school officials had contacted him about an incident involving two students who had allegedly been bullying his son.

According to Thomas, the school principal informed him that the two students had been suspended.

Thomas later recalled how Javits had finally opened up to him about what was happening.

His son reportedly told him:

“Dad, anytime I go to lunch, that guy keeps bullying me. I’ve reported him several times.”

The father said he had tried to reassure himself that the situation was being handled.

However, he never imagined that his son would lose his life just days later.

Although the family believes the reported bullying may be connected to the śh́óóting, police have not confirmed that it was the motive.

For Thomas Frimpong, bringing his son from Ghana to the United States was about giving him a chance at a brighter future.

Javits had been living in America for approximately one year.

He attended DreamYard Preparatory School, where he was remembered as a student whose life had barely begun.

His father said the boy wanted to become a doctor.

He had imagined a future filled with possibilities — an education, a career, and the opportunity to make his family proud.

Instead of watching his son graduate, attend college, and eventually fulfill that ambition, Thomas is now facing the unimaginable task of saying goodbye.

The father has described his son as innocent and called for those responsible to be held accountable.

HIS MOTHER IS THOUSANDS OF MILES AWAY

The tᩚraɢedy has been made even more painful by the distance separating Javits’s parents.

While his father was in New York, his mother remained in Ghana.

She was left facing the devastating news of her son’s dєatᩚh from thousands of miles away.

According to reports, she struggled to believe what had happened and desperately wanted to travel to the United States to see her son one final time.

The situation prompted New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani to intervene.

On October 31, Mamdani announced that he had spoken with President Donald Trump, who had agreed to grant Javits’s mother a visa so she could travel to New York and say goodbye to her child in person.

The announcement offered a measure of hope to a family facing an unbearable loss.

A COMMUNITY GATHERS TO REMEMBER JAVITS

As news of the śh́óóting spread, members of the Bronx community gathered to honor the teenager and demand justice.

Family members, classmates, neighbors, faith leaders, and members of the Ghanaian community attended a vigil near the location where Javits was shot.

Students from DreamYard Preparatory also held a silent memorial in his honor.

They carried signs reading:

“JUSTICE FOR JAVITS.”

“FOREVER 15.”

“PROTECT KIDS, NOT GUNS.”

The gathering was filled with tears, prayers, and embraces as people remembered a young boy who should have been preparing for his future rather than being mourned.

Community members also called for greater efforts to protect children and address bullying and violence among young people.

THE SEARCH FOR ANSWERS CONTINUES

The New York Police Department continues investigating Javits’s dєatᩚh.

Detectives are seeking three individuals believed to be connected to the śh́óóting. Authorities have not publicly confirmed a motive or established whether the reported bullying was directly related to the attack.

The family is still waiting for answers.

For Thomas, no arrest or investigation can bring back the son he brought to America hoping to give a better life.

Javits was supposed to have years ahead of him.

He was supposed to finish school, pursue medicine, celebrate birthdays, and discover everything the future had in store.

Instead, his father must now hold on to memories of a child whose dreams were never given the chance to become reality.

He came to America dreaming of becoming a doctor. He was only 15 when his life was taken. And somewhere in the Bronx, a father is left wondering what his son might have become.

May Javits Frimpong rest in peace.
