Footballer’s Girlfriend Left Alone at Hospital as His Father Breaks Down Watching Fatal Collision on TV

The final hours of Spanish footballer Jesús de Miguel’s life were marked by heartbreak for the people closest to him. While his girlfriend waited at the hospital with their young daughter, his parents rushed to Tenerife after learning of the devastating collision that would ultimately claim his life.
De Miguel, a 30-year-old striker for CD Tenerife, died on the morning of November 3, following a serious on-field collision with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono during a Spanish second-division match.
His girlfriend, María, had been watching the game from the stands with their one-year-old daughter, Carla, when the incident unfolded.
The collision happened in the 96th minute, as De Miguel chased a long ball near the halfway line. Owono rushed out of his goal to clear it, but his raised knee struck the Tenerife forward in the chest.
De Miguel collapsed and lost consciousness. Medical personnel rushed onto the pitch and treated him after he suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest. His pulse was restored before he was taken to hospital in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
Owono was shown a red card, and the match was abandoned.
As De Miguel was taken into intensive care, María found herself facing an unimaginable situation. His close friend and fellow footballer Fernando Román later revealed that he and his girlfriend had spent much of the afternoon and night speaking with her while she was alone at the hospital.
Román said the tᩚraɢedy had hit her extremely hard. De Miguel’s parents eventually travelled to Tenerife after learning that their son was in intensive care.
The pain was equally devastating for his father, who had been watching the match at a bar in the family’s hometown of Navahermosa, in central Spain.
A neighbour later told Spanish television programme Y ahora Sonsoles that De Miguel’s father immediately burst into tears when he saw the collision on television. He then gathered his family so they could travel to Tenerife.
But despite the desperate efforts of medical staff, De Miguel’s condition deteriorated.
His club announced that he had died at approximately 8 a.m. on November 3, leaving behind his partner and their young daughter.
Román, who plays for Spanish side Talavera, also shared an emotional tribute to his friend. He described De Miguel as humble, hardworking and someone who brought happiness to everyone around him.
The two families had recently been discussing a trip to Disneyland with their children. Román said the plans made the sudden loss even harder to comprehend.
The footballer’s dєatᩚh sent shockwaves through Spanish football. His funeral was held on November 5 in Navahermosa, where family, friends, teammates and representatives from across the sport gathered to pay their respects.
Meanwhile, Spanish authorities opened a judicial investigation into the circumstances surrounding his dєatᩚh. The preliminary post-mortem findings described chest trauma consistent with the cause of dєatᩚh. Investigators are also examining the emergency medical response.
Owono has expressed his grief over the tᩚraɢedy, saying he was struggling to find words to describe what had happened.

For María, their daughter Carla and the rest of De Miguel’s family, the loss is immeasurable. What began as an ordinary football match ended in a tᩚraɢedy that has left an entire community mourning a young father and athlete whose life was cut short at just 30.
