Mother Breaks Down and Vomits After Hearing Sentence for Man Who Stabbed Her 22 Times in Front of Her Toddler

A New York mother was left physically sick after hearing the prison sentence handed to the man who nearly killed her in a brutal knife attack inside her own apartment. Despite being stabbed 22 times, the attacker will spend just eight and a half years behind bars.
Kaitlynn Berman, 23, was overcome with emotion after a Bronx judge sentenced Christopher Joseph, also 23, for the March 2025 attack. According to reports, she vomited after learning the punishment, which she and her supporters considered far too lenient.
The horrifying assault happened while Berman was looking after a cat for a friend. Joseph, who was her friend’s boyfriend, came to her apartment in the Bronx to collect the animal.
During the visit, Joseph allegedly made an inappropriate 𝘴єxual proposition. Berman rejected him and asked him to leave. But when she turned away to get him a drink, he suddenly attacked her with a knife.
Joseph stabbed her approximately 22 times, striking her face, neck, back, hands and other parts of her body. Her three-year-old daughter was in another room during the violence.
The attack left Berman fighting for her life. She spent 48 days in hospital, underwent multiple surgeries and received blood transfusions. She continues to suffer from permanent nerve damage, physical pain and psychological trauma.
Joseph fled the apartment with Berman’s cellphone and nearly $6,000 in cash. He was arrested the following day and later pleaded guilty to second-degree attempted murder.
At the sentencing hearing, Berman addressed the man who had left her with life-changing injuries. She told him: “You failed to take my life, and you won’t take away my future.”
Prosecutors had sought a 10-year prison sentence, while the defense requested a shorter term. The judge ultimately imposed eight and a half years in prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision.
The sentence sparked outrage among Berman’s supporters. Her adviser, Bishop Boyde Singletary, said she was so overwhelmed by the decision that she became physically ill.
Supporters argued that the punishment did not reflect the severity of the attack or the lasting damage Berman continues to endure. They said she should have received a far longer sentence.
Berman’s ordeal has not ended with Joseph’s conviction. She still lives with the consequences of the attack, while her supporters say they intend to challenge the outcome and seek further review.

For a woman who survived 22 stab wounds inside her own home, the courtroom decision brought another devastating moment in a case that has already changed her life forever.
