Investigators Unearth ᑕriᩚtiᩚcal Piece of Learjet Engine After diᩚadℓy Florida 𝔠r𝘢sh That Killed Nine

Federal investigators have recovered a significant piece of an engine from the wreckage of a Learjet that crashed into a Florida neighborhood, 𝘬iᩚlling all nine people aboard, as the investigation into the devastating disaster enters a ᑕriᩚtiᩚcal new phase.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) announced the discovery on November 5, after crews began excavating the impact site near Greenacres, close to West Palm Beach.

The Learjet 60 crashed on November 1 while traveling from Austin, Texas, to North Eleuthera in the Bahamas. The aircraft went down in Palm Beach County, 𝘬iᩚlling everyone on board.

Investigators had been unable to reach parts of the wreckage because the impact created a large crater that filled with water. Crews first had to pump out the water before excavation work could begin.

During the recovery operation, investigators uncovered a portion of one engine.

But that was not the only disturbing discovery.

Aircraft debris found on nearby homes

The NTSB revealed that pieces of the aircraft had been scattered well beyond the main 𝔠r𝘢sh site.

Some debris was discovered on the roofs of nearby homes and buildings, while other significant components were found miles away.

Earlier examinations uncovered three pieces of the aircraft’s left elevator, a flight-control surface on the tail that helps control the plane’s nose-up and nose-down movement.

The pieces were located between approximately 1.3 and 3.8 miles from the 𝔠r𝘢sh site.

NTSB board member Tom Chapman described the discovery as important evidence, confirming that at least part of the aircraft had separated before impact.

However, investigators have not determined whether the separation caused the 𝔠r𝘢sh or occurred as the aircraft was already descending out of control.

Pilots reported ice and turbulence before the disaster

The flight crew had reported light clear icing and moderate turbulence while flying at approximately 35,000 feet.

They subsequently reported precipitation and requested permission to climb to 37,000 feet.

Less than 30 seconds after air traffic control approved the request, the crew reported that the aircraft was descending and issued a mayday call.

Another transmission indicated that the Learjet was experiencing an overspeed condition.

The aircraft crashed shortly afterward.

Weather conditions, the aircraft’s structural integrity and the final moments of the flight are all expected to be important parts of the investigation.

The NTSB has not established an official cause of the disaster.

Nine people killed in the tᩚraɢedy

Among the victims were Austin technology entrepreneur Adam Robinson, his wife Helen Sharp and their two young children, Emma, 4, and Charlie, 2.

The family’s nanny, Ana María Ramírez Cetina, was also killed, along with family friends Rachael Reed and Charmi Fehr.

The two pilots were Captain Jeffrey Gregory, 55, and co-pilot Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras, 20.

The tᩚraɢedy devastated several families and left a community searching for answers about how a routine journey to the Bahamas turned into a fatal disaster.

NTSB issues urgent plea to residents

As investigators continue collecting wreckage, the agency has urged residents who discover aircraft debris not to move, keep, alter or throw away any pieces.

Even seemingly insignificant fragments could contain evidence needed to reconstruct the aircraft’s final moments.

Anyone who has found debris is being asked to contact the NTSB

All recovered wreckage will be transported to a secure location for further examination.

For the families of the nine victims, the discovery of another piece of the aircraft represents another step toward understanding what happened. But the central question remains unanswered: What caused the Learjet to fall from the sky?
