Ohio Bull Rider Fatally Injured After Being Thrown and Stomped at Local Rodeo

A 35-year-old Ohio man lost his life during a bull-riding compeтιтion on Saturday night after being thrown from a bull and then stepped on or kicked by the animal. Jason Blake Saylor (also referred to in some reports as Justin “Blake” Saylor) suffered a severe traumatic chest injury at Fox Hollow Stables in Waynesville, located in Clearcreek Township, Ohio. Despite wearing protective chest equipment, the injuries proved fatal.

The incident took place during an evening event at the Fox Hollow Rodeo. According to local authorities, Saylor was competing when the bull tossed him from its back. Once on the ground, the animal made contact with him, causing the ᑕriᩚtiᩚcal chest trauma. Emergency medical personnel responded quickly to the scene around 7:41 p.m. and provided immediate treatment before transporting him to Atrium Medical Center. He was pronounced ᴅᴇᴀᴅ at the hospital less than an hour after the accident.

Fox Hollow Rodeo issued a public statement expressing deep sorrow over the loss. Organizers described Saylor as one of their bull riders and a “brother in Christ,” writing that their hearts were absolutely broken. They stated that there were no words adequate to convey the sadness felt by the rodeo community and offered thoughts and prayers to his family, friends, and everyone affected by the tᩚraɢedy.

A woman identified as Lindsay Marie, who shared a close relationship with Saylor, posted an emotional tribute. She recalled that he had often expressed the hope that if his time came, it would be while doing what he loved most — riding bulls. She wrote of her wish that she could hold him one last time and tell him how much she loved him. Social media posts also indicated that Saylor had recently dealt with a broken collarbone from a previous riding incident.

Bull riding remains one of the most hazardous sports in the United States. Research has shown injury rates more than ten times higher than those recorded in football. A study referenced by sports medicine experts has estimated that fatal accidents occur roughly once every 25,000 rides. Even with modern protective vests and other safety gear, the combination of a powerful animal and the unpredictable nature of the event continues to carry significant risk.

Authorities have opened an investigation into the full circumstances of the incident. In the meantime, members of the local and wider rodeo community have been mourning the sudden dєatᩚh of a compeтιтor who was actively pursuing the sport he was pᴀssionate about. The loss has left family, friends, and fellow riders reflecting on both the dangers inherent in bull riding and the dedication of those who choose to compete.
