Two People Caught on Camera Dumping Duffle Bag Containing Young Man’s Body Outside Brooklyn Church

A 𝘴h☉𝔠king discovery on a Brooklyn sidewalk has turned into a disturbing murder investigation after a 24-year-old man was found dead inside a large duffle bag abandoned outside a church.
The victim was identified by his family and Ghanaian officials as Joseph Owusu, a young Ghanaian man who lived in the Bronx. His body was discovered on the morning of October 30 in the Canarsie neighborhood of Brooklyn, near East 93rd Street and Avenue L.
Surveillance footage has since revealed what happened during the early hours before the discovery. Two people were seen arriving in a white sedan, removing a large black bag from the trunk and dragging it onto the sidewalk before driving away.
The footage reportedly shows one person struggling with the heavy bag while the other stands nearby. Investigators are working to establish who they were and what happened to Owusu before his body was abandoned.
A 𝘴h☉𝔠king Discovery on a Quiet Street
The disturbing discovery came hours after the bag was left near a church.
A man who regularly collected scrap metal spotted the bag later that morning. He reportedly placed it on a handcart and moved it along the street before opening it and discovering a human body inside.
Police were called to the scene and found Owusu unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the location.
At first, authorities believed the victim was a man in his 50s or 60s. His identity was later established through his family and Ghanaian officials.
The city’s medical examiner is investigating the circumstances of his dєatᩚh. As of November 6, authorities had not publicly confirmed his cause of dєatᩚh, and no arrests had been announced.
His Family Is Desperate for Answers
For Owusu’s relatives, the discovery has been devastating.
His older brother, Kojo Yeboah, said the family initially became concerned when they could not reach Joseph. His sister had last spoken with him on Tuesday, and by Thursday they were increasingly worried.
Yeboah said he has watched the surveillance footage repeatedly, hoping to recognize the people seen leaving the bag. However, he said he did not know either of them.
Speaking to ABC7, he made an emotional appeal for justice, saying: “I need justice for Joseph. I want the truth to come out.”
He also stressed that his younger brother was only 24 and had so much life ahead of him.
Remembered as a Talented Musician and Caring Young Man
Beyond the circumstances of his dєatᩚh, Owusu’s family and friends have been remembering the person he was.
He was a devoted churchgoer who grew up attending Ghana United Methodist Church in the Bronx. He became a talented pianist and organist, often playing for hours to perfect his music.
Church members said he was capable of stepping in when the choir director was absent, helping lead the congregation’s music.
Owusu also worked supporting people with disabilities while studying computer science, according to his family.
His brother described him as someone who loved music and his faith. The family is now struggling to come to terms with the loss of a young man they say was deeply loved by those around him.
Officials from Ghana’s diplomatic mission have also visited the family and expressed support, saying they would work with relevant US authorities.
Police Still Searching for Answers
The surveillance footage has become an important part of the investigation, but several major questions remain unanswered.
Authorities have not publicly identified the two people seen in the footage, explained why Owusu’s body was left outside the church or disclosed how he died.
As the investigation continues, his family is hoping someone will recognize the individuals or provide information that could help police establish what happened.

For the people who knew Joseph Owusu, the most painful part is that a young man remembered for his music, kindness and devotion to his family and church is now gone — while the circumstances surrounding his final hours remain a mystery.
