Plot Summary

The movie follows Megan Leavey (played by Kate Mara), a troubled young woman struggling with personal issues. Seeking purpose and direction, she enlists in the U.S. Marine Corps and is assigned to the K9 unit, where she meets Rex, a fierce and highly skilled bomb-sniffing German Shepherd with a difficult personality.

Despite initial challenges, Megan and Rex form a deep, unbreakable bond through intense training. They are deployed to Iraq, where they complete over 100 successful missions detecting explosives and saving lives. After being severely injured in an IED explosion, Megan returns home determined to adopt Rex, despite bureaucratic obstacles.
