Mosul

“Mosul” is a 2019 American war action film written and directed by Matthew Michael Carnahan. It is set during the 2016 Battle of Mosul, when Iraqi government forces and coalition allies defeated ISIS, which had controlled the city since June 2014. It premiered at the 2019 Venice Film Festival and was released on Netflix on November 26, 2020.

During the Battle of Mosul, three Iraqi police officers arrest ISIS drug dealers but are quickly overwhelmed and run out of ammunition while defending themselves in a cafe. One of the police officers, 21-year-old Kawa, has just joined the police force, losing his uncle in a gunfight. The Nineveh SWAT team, led by Major Jasem, rescues them and invites Kawa to join the team after learning that he has lost his family to ISIS. Kawa accepts and continues their mysterious mission with the team, gradually discovering the true goal of the mission and facing dangerous challenges.
