In Big Daddy, Sonny Koufax (Adam Sandler) is an immature, lazy man who enjoys a carefree life in New York City. When a child named Julian (Cole and Dylan Sprouse) unexpectedly shows up on his doorstep, Sonny learns that he has been left in charge of his ex-girlfriend’s son. Initially, Sonny sees this as a temporary inconvenience and uses Julian as a way to win back his ex, Vanessa (Kristy Swanson). However, as Sonny spends more time with Julian, he begins to form a genuine bond with the child.
Throughout the film, Sonny struggles with fatherhood, often mishandling situations, but gradually becomes more responsible. He realizes that taking care of Julian requires more than just basic survivalโit involves emotional investment, love, and sacrifice. In the end, Sonny decides to give up his carefree lifestyle to ensure Julianโs future. He takes full responsibility for raising Julian, even going as far as to fight for custody in court when Julianโs biological father threatens to take him away.
