The Sorcerer and the White Snake (2011) — A Fantasy Adventure of Love and Conflict
Directed by Ching Siu-tung, The Sorcerer and the White Snake is a Chinese action-fantasy film based on the legendary tale of the Legend of the White Snake. The story revolves around Abbot Fahai (Jet Li), a monk dedicated to capturing demons, and Susu (Eva Huang), a thousand-year-old white snake demon who falls in love with a human physician, Xu Xian (Raymond Lam).
As Susu and Xu Xian’s love blossoms, Fahai intervenes, believing their union to be dangerous. The film explores themes of love, sacrifice, and the clash between duty and emotion, all set against a backdrop of stunning visual effects and martial arts sequences.
Released on September 28, 2011, in China, the film was also showcased at the 68th Venice International Film Festival.
