Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin were  in 2022. Goncalves, Mogen and Kernodle lived in the home with two other roommates, while Chapin was staying over with Kernodle, his girlfriend.

The two surviving roommates recounted how scared and frightened they were that night. One had seen Bryan Kohberger, who later confessed to the killings, leaving the home without having any idea that he had harmed her roommates.

They called 911 eight hours later, the next day, after discovering what had happened to the four students.

Three of the victims were stabbed in their sleep, with a coroner finding no evidence they woke up, but Kernodle  and was stabbed more times than the others.

Kohberger, at the time a graduate student in criminal justice at nearby Washington State University, was arrested nearly seven weeks after the 𝘬iᩚlling and . He was sentenced to four consecutive life sentences.

He is now seeking to , saying that it was based on false promises and disinformation.
