Trump responds to pardon plea from Lindsay Clancy’s attorney

‘There’s no win no matter what you do. Three children are dead,’ Trump remarked

President Trump has indicated that he may not intervene in the Lindsay Clancy case after her attorney publicly called for a pardon.

Clancy, who has been accused of 𝘬iᩚlling her three children, has been at the center of a high-profile case that ended in a mistrial earlier in September.

Attorney Kevin Reddington had publicly urged the president to consider a pardon during an appearance on Good Morning America on September 8.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Trump suggested that the case is “actually a state situation, not a federal”.

“It’s a very sad situation,” Trump said. “I certainly heard that, but look, it’s very sad. There is no winner there. There’s no win no matter what you do. Three children are dead.”

Reddington made his plea to the president on Good Morning America when he was asked questions about Clancy’s alleged 𝘬iᩚlling of her children in January 2023.

“I would hope that you would consider this young lady – the type of person she is and what she’s been through – and consider a pardon,” he said at the time.

Reddington appeared on WBZ-TV last week to reiterate his pardon plea, noting that Trump did not have the legal authority to meet such a request. But he went on to suggest that Trump may be able to exert some outside influence on the outcome.

“If President Trump feels that this is a case that warrants that type of intervention from the executive branch, if you will – even though, legally, it’s not a federal case – he certainly has an awful lot of clout,” he said. “I think any type of help that we can get is helpful.”

Addressing reporters, Trump praised Reddington’s performance as an attorney and said that he hopes a resolution can be reached.

“He’s a good attorney,” Trump said. “I’ve heard from other people he’s a very good attorney.

“I hope they can work something out,” he continued. “That’s something they have to work out.”

Clancy’s defense team have not disputed allegations that she killed her three children, aged between 5 years old and eight months old. The former labor-and-delivery nurse from Boston pleaded not guilty to the murder charges specifically, with her defense team suggesting that she had been suffering from postpartum psychosis.

During the trial, it was argued that she had suffered from hallucinations and delusions following the birth of her third child.

Eventually, the case ended in a mistrial after jurors could not agree on a verdict. Roni Carlson, the jury foreperson, told NBC10 Boston that a male juror admitted to having “reasonable doubt.”

“But I’m still not going to say that she’s not guilty by reason of insanity,” the male juror told the foreperson.

Ahead of the case ending in a mistrial, Trump weighed in on proceedings and dubbed Clancy’s alleged actions as “horrible.”

“It’s a terrible situation. Look, she did a horrible, horrible thing,” he said. “Can’t be worse. But you’ll find out what the price to pay is.

Trump added, “There’ll be a price. It’s going to be mєntal institution or jail or something, but I guess they’re going to go through another trial.”
