California car titan’s final moments with Hooters calendar girl — and the text she sent sister before McLaren horror crash

A California car fanatic and from Florida had been on a first date when they died in a horrific fireball crash, her family has revealed.

James Wehr, 27, and Alexis “Lexi” Kramer, 22, were killed around 12:20 a.m. Sunday when his 2019 McLaren , Orange County. The massive force of the impact and saw it burst into flames, killing both people inside, with harrowing video showing the extent of the damage.

A member of Kramer’s family told the California Post that Wehr paid for her to fly from her home in Lakeland, Fla., to California Friday to meet for the first time after one month of chatting on social media.

The family member said Wehr had told Kramer he was separated from his wife Emma and they were finalizing their divorce, but it had not been filed with the courts in Orange County. The relative said Kramer believed she was traveling to see a man who loved her. The pair then spent all of Saturday together.

Wehr first took Kramer out to breakfast before the pair headed to Nobu for dinner and later drinks at the Pendry, the relative said.

The family member said: “He talked to her every day, all the time and finally got her to fly out to California to come see him.”

Kramer had never met Wehr in person before making the trip. The pair had met through Instagram direct messages and had been talking for about a month, according to the relative. She knew Wehr was married but believed his assurances that the relationship was effectively over. “She only knew from what he told her that they were almost done finalizing their divorce,” the family member said.

The relative said they had warned Kramer about being skeptical Wehr was actually getting divorced, but that Kramer wanted to believe him: “She tried so hard to give him the benefit of the doubt because I was wary about if he was actually getting divorced.”

On the night of the crash, Kramer sent a photo to a family member from breakfast with a message reading, “At cute breakfast place.”

The picture showed the side profile of a man whose tattoo sleeve matched Wehr’s.

Hours later, the McLaren was stopped at a red light before accelerating at a high rate of speed when the light turned green, police said.

The driver lost control, crossed a curb and slammed into a tree. Authorities have not said who was driving or released a precise speed as the investigation continues.

The Post has reached out to Wehr’s family and business for comment.
