Lindsay Clancy holdout juror claims others using cell phones during deliberations

The lone juror whose vote resulted in a mistrial in the Lindsay Clancy murder case claims his peers were using cellphones during deliberations.

“Everybody had their phone on them,” said Ray Marcel, a spokesperson for holdout juror Michael Desronvil, recalling a conversation they had.

“It wasn’t like they took their phones away and locked them away,” Marcel told NewsNation’s Brian Entin. “I mean, there were juror members, which I’m not going to say names, that were posting on social media allegedly, you know, while deliberations (were) going on.”

Meanwhile, defense attorney Kevin Reddington is asking for Desronvil’s phone records, seeking to track any potential communications that could have been made.

Lindsay Clancy holdout juror Michael Desronvil

Jury foreperson Roni Carlson told NBC 10 Boston that Desronvil “admitted he had reasonable doubt” but allegedly refused to engage with the other jurors as to why.

Carlson also believed he was not properly applying the judge’s instructions on reasonable doubt and sent the judge a note raising her concerns.

Other jurors also alleged Desronvil was dismissive of their arguments. However, Desronvil said in a conversation on the “Fugitive TV” streaming series that deliberations were contentious from the start.

Clancy’s defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, asked the judge to remove Desronvil from the jury, arguing he was not following the law regarding reasonable doubt. The judge denied the request and deliberations continued.

The public reaction after the trial has cast a dark shadow on Desronvil. Since the mistrial, he was publicly revealed as the holdout juror, had his address and phone number doxxed, and has received dєatᩚh threats.

Lindsay Clancy mistrial

Judge William Sullivan declared a mistrial in the Lindsay Clancy case after jurors failed to reach a verdict in a case over whether the Massachusetts woman should be criminally responsible for killing her three young children.

The trial generated intense interest for weeks, drawing attention to maternal mєntal health after childbirth.

Clancy, a 36-year-old former labor and delivery nurse, never disputed that she killed the children. But her attorney said she had a rare condition called postpartum psychosis when she strangled her kids — the youngest just 8 months old — then tried to take her own life in 2023. Prosecutors said Clancy knew what she was doing.
