A devastating investigation in Sheffield has moved into a major new stage after four adults were charged with the murder of a newborn baby girl, known in court only as “Baby S.” A fifth defendant, a 15-year-old girl, has also been charged with perverting the course of justice.

Police were called to a property on Holywell Heights in Wincobank shortly before 6am on August 30 after receiving a report concerning the safety of an infant. Officers found the baby at the property, but despite efforts by emergency services, she was pronounced ᴅᴇᴀᴅ at the scene. A forensic post-mortem later established that her dєatᩚh was caused by stab wounds.

The four adults facing murder charges are Andrea Skopova, 20; Peter Horvath Jr, 19; Peter Horvath Sr, 38; and Nina Horvathova, 37. Prosecutors also accuse them of causing or allowing the dєatᩚh of a child and attempting to conceal the alleged 𝘬iᩚlling. The 15-year-old girl faces a separate charge of perverting the course of justice.

At an earlier hearing, the court heard that Baby S had suffered 33 injuries from 15 separate stabbings. Reports said she was found in an outbuilding at the property. Those details have intensified public shock, but investigators and prosecutors have repeatedly warned against speculation while the criminal proceedings remain active.

The case has now reached Sheffield Crown Court, where the defendants appeared alongside the teenage girl. The hearing was visibly emotional: reports said Skopova and the 15-year-old girl cried throughout, while members of the public gallery were also in tears. All five were remanded in custody.

The court has provisionally scheduled the trial to begin on April 12, 2027, with proceedings expected to last six to seven weeks. Two other women previously arrested on suspicion of murder remain on bail as the investigation continues.
