The South Jersey community is continuing to rally behind 12-year-old Xavier Taylor, who remains in ᑕriᩚtiᩚcal condition after a baseball struck him in the neck during warmups on May 26.

Xavier was airlifted to Cooper University Hospital after collapsing on the field. His father, Gregory Taylor, described the incident as a freak accident and said there was no one to blame.

After roughly 20 days on a ventilator, the family said Xavier’s condition had stabilized. His vital signs were showing improvement, and he was no longer receiving blood-pressure medication—small but meaningful developments for a family still praying for a miracle.

“We’re praying very faithfully every day that our son is going to wake up,” his father said as supporters gathered around the family.

The response has stretched far beyond Maple Shade. Baseball teams, professional players and local organizations have sent messages, signed equipment and organized events in Xavier’s honor. The Trenton Thunder dedicated a signed bat to him, while the community has repeatedly worn his No. 6 and held prayer gatherings.

The medical situation remains extremely serious, however. Public updates have come primarily through Xavier’s family, and there is no verified report that he has regained consciousness or been removed from ventilator support.

That makes every reported improvement significant—but it also underscores the uncertainty surrounding his recovery.

For the Taylor family, this is no longer about a baseball game. It is about waiting, day after day, for a child they love to come home.
