MIRACLE SEPARATION: CONJOINED TWIN GIRLS BEGIN INDEPENDENT LIVES AFTER 11-HOUR SURGERY
In an extraordinary medical triumph, twin sisters AmieLynn Rose and JamieLynn Rae Finley have been successfully separated following a complex 11-hour procedure at Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas. Born prematurely on October 3, the girls were omphalopagus conjoined twins, physically connected at the abdomen and sharing skin, muscle, and part of their liver. At just 16 weeks old, the sisters underwent a historic operation—the first conjoined twin separation ever performed at the hospital—allowing them to sleep in separate cribs for the very first time.

The high-stakes operation was led by pediatric surgeon Dr. José Iglesias alongside a multidisciplinary team of 25 healthcare professionals, including six surgeons. To ensure absolute precision, specialists spent months studying the infants’ anatomy using detailed 3D models. The surgical team also implemented an innovative color-coding system to keep care seamlessly organized: one twin had her toenails painted purple while the other’s were green, with medical staff wearing matching colored surgical caps. During the delicate surgery, doctors carefully divided the shared liver before reconstructing each baby’s abdominal wall.

Conjoined births occur in roughly one in 200,000 deliveries, making successful separation a rare and complex achievement that requires optimal physical stability and meticulous anatomical planning. Thanks to months of rigorous preparation and the coordinated efforts of an expert medical team, AmieLynn and JamieLynn can now look forward to growing up side by side as two physically independent individuals, stepping into a future filled with hope and endless possibilities.
