“ROB WAS THE LOVE OF MY LIFE” — LINDSEY BURROW OPENS UP ABOUT THE HEARTBREAK THAT STILL HITS HER TWO YEARS AFTER LOSING HER HUSBAND

“ROB WAS THE LOVE OF MY LIFE” — LINDSEY BURROW OPENS UP ABOUT THE HEARTBREAK THAT STILL HITS HER TWO YEARS AFTER LOSING HER HUSBAND

More than two years after rugby league legend Rob Burrow died, his wife Lindsey is learning to navigate life without the man she loved since they were teenagers — while raising their three children and keeping his extraordinary legacy alive.

For Lindsey Burrow, grief does not always arrive on anniversaries or special occasions.

Sometimes, it comes unexpectedly while she is driving, when a familiar song brings back memories of the man she loved for most of her life. At other times, seeing another father standing beside his child at a football match reminds her of the moments Rob should still be sharing with their family.

More than two years after losing her husband, the former Leeds Rhinos star, Lindsey has spoken openly about the pain that remains, the memories that bring comfort and the three children who give her strength to keep moving forward.

Rob died on June 2, 2024, aged 41, after a courageous battle with motor neurone disease (MND).

“NO ONE WILL EVER TAKE HIS PLACE”

In a recent interview, Lindsey made it clear that Rob remains irreplaceable in her life.

The couple had been together since their teenage years and were married for 17 years. Together, they raised Macy, Maya and Jackson, building a family life that became even more precious as Rob’s illness progressed.

Asked whether she could imagine finding love again, Lindsey gave a heartfelt response.

“Rob was the love of my life. No one will ever take his place,” she said.

Although his absence continues to hurt, she remains grateful for the years they shared and for the family they created together.

Their story was about much more than rugby. Behind Rob’s sporting achievements was a devoted husband and father whose greatest happiness came from spending time with his children.

For Lindsey, losing him meant losing her partner, her closest companion and the person she had expected to share countless future milestones with.

One of Lindsey’s most moving reflections was that grief can arrive during the most ordinary moments.

A song playing in the car can suddenly remind her of Rob, bringing back memories and making his absence feel painfully immediate.

“You can be driving, a song comes on that reminds you of Rob and the grief just hits you,” she explained.

Other reminders are even harder to escape.

Watching other fathers support their children at football can make Lindsey think about the moments Rob is missing with their youngest child, Jackson.

“It’s him not being able to watch football with Jackson. You see other dads there, and part of me feels that Rob should be here,” she said.

These everyday experiences show how bereavement can continue long after the initial shock of losing someone. Life moves forward, but familiar places, songs and family routines can bring sadness rushing back.

For Lindsey, learning to live with grief does not mean leaving Rob behind. It means finding a way to carry his memory through the difficult days as well as the happy ones.

Throughout the hardest moments, Lindsey says her three children have given her strength beyond what they may realise.

Macy, Maya and Jackson continue to grow up without their father physically beside them, but Rob remains a daily presence in their family life.

The family talks about him regularly and keeps memory jars filled with reminders of the time they shared. These treasured keepsakes allow the children to revisit special memories and preserve their connection with their dad.

Lindsey believes their resilience reflects the example Rob set during his illness.

“They’re the reason I wake up with a smile in the morning,” she said. “He’d be so proud. He idolised them.”

Her words reveal the determination behind her daily life as a mother: to give the children a happy childhood while making sure they never feel they must stop talking about the father they miss.

THE FATHER WHO NEVER STOPPED MAKING MEMORIES

Even as MND progressively affected Rob’s abilities, he continued to treasure the time he could spend with his family.

Lindsey recalled that he often wanted to leave social gatherings early so he could get home to the children.

She also remembered how, during the final week of his life, Rob attended his daughters’ dance show despite being seriously unwell. He also made time to take Jackson to Leeds Bradford Airport to watch planes.

Those memories have become especially precious because they capture the kind of father Rob was: someone determined to be present for his children for as long as he could.

His illness brought enormous challenges, but Lindsey has repeatedly spoken about his strength, positivity and refusal to allow self-pity to define their family’s remaining time together.

The memories of those ordinary family moments now carry extraordinary meaning.

LINDSEY’S PROMISE TO KEEP LIVING LIFE TO THE FULL

Before Rob died, Lindsey made him a promise that she would continue living life to the full.

She remains committed to keeping it.

“I made Rob a promise that we’d keep living life to the full,” she said. “And we’re doing that.”

That does not mean every day is easy, or that the pain has disappeared. Instead, Lindsey is learning that grief and happiness can exist alongside each other.

She can miss Rob deeply while celebrating her children’s achievements. She can feel sadness at a family milestone while also feeling grateful for the years they shared.

Her commitment is to keep moving forward without pretending that the person she lost could ever be replaced.

A LEGACY THAT CONTINUES BEYOND RUGBY

Rob’s impact reached far beyond the rugby league field.

After being diagnosed with MND in December 2019, he became a prominent campaigner for greater awareness, research and support for people living with the condition.

He and Lindsey shared the realities of their experience with the public, helping more people understand the challenges faced by patients and their families.

The Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease at Seacroft Hospital in Leeds opened in November 2025, helping carry forward a vision Rob had championed.

Lindsey has continued to support that legacy, using her experiences to help other families affected by MND and to ensure that the work remains focused on the people who need it.

For her, his legacy is not simply a collection of sporting achievements or public tributes. It is the difference his story continues to make to other people.

THE TRUTH ABOUT THE LATEST HEALTH CLAIM

Although Lindsey has spoken candidly about grief and the challenges of life after Rob’s dєatᩚh, the recent interviews cited here do not confirm that she has received a new, devastating illness diagnosis.

Her documented story is already deeply emotional: she is raising three children, navigating the unpredictable nature of bereavement and continuing the work that mattered so much to her late husband.

It is important not to confuse that emotional struggle with an unverified medical claim.

“HE WILL ALWAYS BE PART OF OUR LIVES” 🕊️

Lindsey’s reflections are a reminder that love does not end when someone diᩚєs — and neither does the process of learning to live with their absence.

Some days are filled with treasured memories and moments of joy. Other days bring an unexpected reminder of the person who should still be there.

Through it all, Lindsey is holding on to the promise she made to Rob: to keep living, to raise their children with love and to make sure their father is never forgotten.

Rob Burrow may no longer be physically beside his family, but the life they built together continues to shape their future.

And for Lindsey, that is one of the most meaningful ways to honour the man she has always described as the love of her life.
