BREAKING: Bryan Kohberger Makes a Stunning Legal Move — Judge Removal Hearing Set for October 15!hl

Bryan Kohberger’s attempt to undo the legal outcome of the Idaho student murders has taken another dramatic turn.

Kohberger, who pleaded guilty in 2025 to 𝘬iᩚlling Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin, is now seeking to remove Judge Steven Hippler from the post-conviction proceedings. His new attorneys argue that Hippler’s previous statements and role in accepting the plea create a question about whether he can remain impartial.

The move matters because Kohberger is trying to do something extraordinarily difficult: withdraw his guilty pleas and obtain a new trial. His peтιтion alleges ineffective ᴀssistance of counsel, coercion and promises that were allegedly not fulfilled. Prosecutors, however, have asked the court to dismiss the peтιтion rather than allow the challenge to proceed.

But there is an important correction to the headline circulating online: the latest reliable reporting does not establish that October 15 is the evidentiary hearing on whether Kohberger can withdraw his plea. The court has set a status conference for June 3, 2027, with a potential evidentiary hearing scheduled for June 17, 2027, depending on whether the case survives the procedural challenges.

The judge-removal request is therefore a separate—and potentially pivotal—battle.

Kohberger’s lawyers are also seeking a change of venue, arguing that his post-conviction proceedings should not remain in Ada County. The defense maintains that a new, impartial forum is necessary to address claims that could determine whether his guilty pleas remain valid.

The stakes could hardly be higher.

Kohberger currently faces four consecutive life sentences without parole. His original plea agreement spared him the dєatᩚh penalty and included a waiver of his right to appeal. If his post-conviction challenge ultimately succeeded and a new trial were ordered, prosecutors could potentially seek the dєatᩚh penalty again.

So the real legal bombshell is not simply that Kohberger wants a judge removed.

It is that his defense is attempting to reopen a case that appeared legally finished—and is attacking the very process that produced his guilty pleas.

For now, nothing has been overturned. The convictions and sentences remain in effect.

But Kohberger’s latest filings make one thing unmistakable:

The Idaho case is entering a new legal chapter, and the fight over whether he can take back his guilty pleas may continue for years.
