‘ROB WAS THE LOVE OF MY LIFE’ — LINDSEY BURROW OPENS UP ABOUT HEARTBREAK TWO YEARS AFTER LOSING RUGBY LEGEND HUSBAND

The widow of rugby league star Rob Burrow has spoken movingly about the grief that still catches her off guard, as she raises their three children and continues the legacy of the man she loved since her teenage years.

More than two years after the dєatᩚh of rugby league legend Rob Burrow, his wife Lindsey has revealed how deeply she still feels his absence — and how the smallest everyday moments can bring the heartbreak rushing back.

Rob, the beloved former Leeds Rhinos star, died in June 2024 at the age of 41 after a courageous battle with motor neurone disease (MND).

For Lindsey, life has continued, but the loss of her husband remains an ever-present part of her world. She is raising their three children, Macy, Maya and Jackson, while working to ensure that Rob’s remarkable legacy continues to help other families affected by the devastating condition.

In a recent interview, Lindsey spoke honestly about the unpredictable nature of grief, explaining that memories can surface without warning.

Sometimes, a familiar song while driving is enough to bring the sadness back. At other times, watching other fathers spend time with their children reminds her of the moments Rob should still be sharing with their family.

Her words offer a moving glimpse into life after losing a partner who had been part of her world since they were teenagers.

Lindsey and Rob shared 17 years of marriage and built a family together before his illness changed their lives.

Asked whether she could imagine finding love again, Lindsey made clear that Rob would always hold a unique place in her heart.

“Rob was the love of my life,” she said, explaining that no one could ever take his place.

Her focus remains on raising their children and helping them grow up surrounded by love, while ensuring that their father remains a central part of their lives.

The family continues to talk about Rob every day. They also keep memory jars filled with reminders of the time they shared with him, giving the children a way to revisit precious moments with their dad.

For Lindsey, remembering Rob is not about remaining trapped in the past. It is about carrying their love and the memories they created into the future.

Macy, Maya and Jackson have been a source of strength for their mother as they navigate life without their father.

Lindsey has spoken with pride about how the children continue to move forward despite missing Rob terribly.

She believes the strength they have shown reflects the example he set during his illness, when he continued to make memories with his family despite the physical challenges of MND.

“They’re the reason I wake up with a smile in the morning,” Lindsey said.

Yet the absence of their father is felt in ordinary moments, too — the family activities he can no longer attend, the conversations they can no longer share and the milestones he should have been there to witness.

For Lindsey, raising the children means finding ways to celebrate their lives while acknowledging that their grief has not simply disappeared.

THE MEMORIES THAT HURT THE MOST

Rob was known not only for his achievements on the rugby field but also for his devotion to his family.

Lindsey recalled how he would often leave social events early because he wanted to get home to the children.

Even during the final week of his life, when he was seriously unwell, he made the effort to watch his daughters perform in a dance show and took Jackson to Leeds Bradford Airport to watch the planes.

Those seemingly ordinary moments have become extraordinary memories.

They reflect the determination of a father who wanted to be present for his children for as long as possible.

Now, those memories bring both comfort and sadness. They remind Lindsey of the life they shared and the future they had hoped to enjoy together.

A PROMISE TO KEEP LIVING LIFE TO THE FULL

Before Rob died, Lindsey made him a promise that she would continue living life to the full.

She remains determined to honour that promise.

But moving forward does not mean forgetting the person who has died, nor does it mean that every day becomes easier.

Grief can arrive unexpectedly, even after months or years have passed. A song, a family celebration or a simple reminder of the past can make the absence feel overwhelming again.

Lindsey’s openness highlights a reality familiar to many bereaved families: learning to live without someone does not mean learning to stop loving them.

Instead, it means finding a way to carry that love while continuing to build a life for those who remain.

KEEPING ROB BURROW’S LEGACY ALIVE

Rob’s influence extended far beyond rugby league.

After being diagnosed with MND in December 2019, he became a prominent campaigner for greater awareness, research and support for people living with the condition.

Together with former teammate Kevin Sinfield and his family, he helped raise awareness of a disease that affects movement, communication and independence.

The Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease at Seacroft Hospital in Leeds opened in November 2025, fulfilling an important part of the vision he had championed.

Lindsey has continued to support the centre and the wider campaign to improve care for people affected by MND.

Her campaigning work was recognised in October 2026 when she received a Campaigning Champions Award at the Women of the Year Awards.

For Lindsey, continuing this work is one way to honour the man who inspired so many people through his courage and determination.

NO CONFIRMED REPORT OF A NEW DIAGNOSIS

Despite dramatic claims circulating online suggesting Lindsey has received a frightening new medical diagnosis, the recent interviews reviewed for this article do not confirm that allegation.

The verified reporting focuses on her grief, her life as a mother of three and her continuing efforts to support the MND community.

It is important to distinguish the genuine emotional challenges she has discussed publicly from unverified claims about her personal health.

A LOVE THAT CONTINUES BEYOND LOSS

Rob Burrow’s dєatᩚh left a profound void in the lives of Lindsey and their children. But the memories they created together remain part of the family’s everyday life.

Through the difficult days, Lindsey continues to raise their children, celebrate their achievements and preserve the story of the husband and father they miss so deeply.

Her reflections are a reminder that grief does not follow a timetable and that even the strongest people can experience moments when the pain returns without warning.

Rob may no longer be physically present, but his influence remains in the children he adored, the people he inspired and the families who continue to benefit from his campaigning.

For Lindsey Burrow, moving forward does not mean leaving Rob behind. It means keeping his memory alive while finding the strength to face each new day.
