Finding True Confidence Beyond Other People’s Opinions

Finding True Confidence Beyond Other People’s Opinions

In 2012, Isa-Bella Leclair took a bikini photo while on vacation in Florida—not to make a bold statement, but simply to share fun memories with friends. Three years later, that simple picture found its way to the people who needed it most.

Born with Parkes Weber syndrome, the Canadian student grew up with vascular abnormalities and severe swelling in her right leg. The condition affected her heart and restricted the physical activities she could safely enjoy. Yet, Isa-Bella chose not to hide. From an early age, she took ownership of her story, learning about her diagnosis and explaining it openly to curious peers before they even asked.

Adapting became second nature. When skinny jeans and standard shoes didn’t fit, she found alternatives. Though physical exertion required extra care, she still pursued her passions, including a love for snowboarding.

In 2015, while researching treatment options, 19-year-old Isa-Bella connected with The Lymphie Life, a blog dedicated to living with lymphatic conditions. She wrote a guest post featuring her 2012 beach photograph. The response was overwhelming. Readers with similar conditions reached out, sharing how seeing someone so comfortable in her own body helped boost their own self-esteem.

Despite the widespread admiration, Isa-Bella kept her perspective grounded, sharing a powerful reminder: “You don’t have to post a photo of yourself in a bikini to be confident.”

For her, true confidence was an internal state—feeling genuinely at peace in her own skin—rather than a public requirement.
