TRAGIC FINAL MOMENTS: 36-YEAR-OLD WOMAN PLUNGES TO HER dєatᩚh FROM ITALIAN MOUNTAIN CLIFF DURING FAMILY HOLIDAY
A dream vacation in Italy turned into a devastating tᩚraɢedy after an American woman fell hundreds of feet from a mountain in the breathtaking Dolomites.
A 36-year-old woman has died after falling from a steep mountainside in northern Italy while on holiday with her family, in a heartbreaking accident that reportedly unfolded in front of her loved ones.
Michelle Alejandra Rubio Leiva, who lived in the Miami, Florida, area, died on October 17, 2026, after falling near Forcella Pordoi, a high-altitude mountain pass in the Dolomites.
A FAMILY HOLIDAY ENDS IN tᩚraɢedy
According to Italian media reports, Michelle was exploring the scenic mountain area with family members when she reportedly stepped away from the marked hiking path to reach a panoramic viewpoint for a photograph.
She allegedly lost her footing on the exposed terrain and plunged down the mountainside.
The reported fall was approximately 200 to 300 meters — around 650 to 1,000 feet. However, the exact distance differs between reports.
Her sister witnessed the incident and alerted emergency services, triggering an urgent rescue response.
RESCUERS RUSHED TO THE SCENE
Alpine rescue specialists and an emergency helicopter were dispatched to the area shortly before noon.
Rescuers reached the mountainside and helped medical personnel access the location. Despite their efforts, a doctor pronounced Michelle dead at the scene.
Her family members were subsequently transported by helicopter to the nearby town of Canazei, while rescuers recovered her body from the mountain.
A BEAUTIFUL LANDSCAPE WITH HIDDEN DANGERS
The Dolomites are renowned for their dramatic rock formations, towering peaks and spectacular views, attracting visitors and hikers from around the world.
But the same landscape can become dangerous in exposed areas, where steep drops and loose gravel can make every step hazardous.
While media reports said Michelle had reportedly left the designated path to take a photograph, the official alpine rescue account described her as having slipped at an exposed point on the mountain.
REMEMBERING MICHELLE
Michelle was born in Guatemala and graduated from Brigham Young University in 2012. She worked in communications, marketing and business development and was also involved in volunteer initiatives supporting young people and underserved communities.
Her dєatᩚh has turned what should have been a memorable family vacation into an unimaginable loss.
Behind the headlines is a woman whose life, work and relationships extended far beyond the tragic circumstances of her final moments.
May Michelle rest in peace, and may her family find strength and comfort as they navigate this heartbreaking loss.
