HERO MUM, 36, DROWNED SAVING HER TWO SONS IN THE BAHAMAS — HEARTBROKEN HUSBAND REVEALS HIS DESPERATE FIGHT TO SAVE HER

It was meant to be a special family getaway celebrating a decade of marriage. Instead, it became a tᩚraɢedy that shattered a family forever.

Leanne Gregory, a 36-year-old mother from Stapleford, Nottinghamshire, died after entering the sea to rescue her two sons when powerful currents swept them into difficulty during a family snorkelling trip in the Bahamas.

Now, her devastated husband, Nathan Gregory, has spoken about the terrifying moments when he desperately tried to save the woman he had loved since childhood.

The couple had been together for 22 years and were celebrating their upcoming 10th wedding anniversary with their children when the tᩚraɢedy unfolded near the island of Bimini on October 20, 2026.

Their two boys survived. But their mother never made it home.

The family were snorkelling near the southern end of Bimini when strong currents reportedly swept both boys away from safety.

According to preliminary information released by Bahamian police, Leanne immediately entered the water in an attempt to rescue her children.

As the situation deteriorated, she was also swept away by the current.

Nathan entered the water to help his family, and the desperate struggle quickly became a race against the powerful sea.

In a heartbreaking account shared after the tᩚraɢedy, Nathan said Leanne managed to keep one of their sons above the water until rescuers reached them.

But as the ordeal continued, a powerful wave reportedly swept a nearby boat away from her.

Leanne had fought to protect her child, but she was left without the strength to save herself.

Both boys were eventually rescued, but their beloved mother was found unresponsive.

Her husband desperately tried to bring her back

When rescuers reached the family, Nathan was still fighting to save his wife.

He later described the devastating experience of trying to get help and watching as others joined the desperate rescue effort.

A nearby boat crew spotted people waving frantically in the water and moved to assist. The difficult sea conditions made reaching the family extremely challenging.

Leanne was transported to the ferry dock, where CPR was reportedly administered before she was taken for medical treatment.

Despite the efforts to save her, she was pronounced dead at a local clinic.

For Nathan, the woman he had shared almost his entire adult life with was suddenly gone.

The boys had survived, but the family returned from what should have been a joyful holiday facing a loss no family should have to endure.

In a fundraising appeal established to support his sons, Nathan paid an emotional tribute to his wife, describing the magnitude of their loss.

He wrote:

“This loss is unimaginable for our family, she was our foundation, our support, she made us who we are.”

He also reflected on their relationship, which had begun when they were children.

“We were childhood sweethearts, my one and only. 22 years into our relationship at only 36-years-old.”

They had built their lives together, raised their children and looked forward to many more years as a family.

Now, Nathan faces the unimaginable task of raising their boys without the woman he described as the perfect mother and wife.

He expressed gratitude that his sons survived and thanked the people who risked their own safety to help rescue them.

He also thanked a woman who assisted with efforts to revive Leanne when the boat returned.

His words reflected both profound grief and gratitude for the people who tried to help his family during those terrifying moments.

Two sons left with a heartbreaking memory

Perhaps the most painful part of the tᩚraɢedy is that Leanne’s children witnessed the desperate efforts to save their mother.

Nathan acknowledged that his boys had experienced something no child should have to see.

Yet amid his grief, he found comfort in knowing that Leanne’s actions helped protect their children.

He described her as a hero and expressed his gratitude that both boys had made it safely out of the water.

For the family, the road ahead will involve grieving their mother and wife while trying to rebuild a sense of security and normality.

The fundraising appeal was created to help support the boys as they face life without their mum and to ease some of the financial pressure left by the sudden loss.

A tᩚraɢedy that unfolded in minutes

The Royal Bahamas Police Force confirmed that officers were informed of a woman who had become unresponsive near the North Bimini Ferry Dock.

Police said preliminary information indicated that strong currents swept the children away before their mother entered the water to rescue them.

Authorities said foul play was not suspected, and an autopsy was expected to help establish the exact cause of dєatᩚh.

The UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office confirmed that it was in contact with local authorities and providing support to the family.

The incident is a sobering reminder of how quickly conditions in open water can become dangerous, even during what begins as an ordinary family outing.

 A mother’s love remembered forever

Leanne was just 36. She and Nathan had spent 22 years together, with their future stretching ahead of them and their children’s lives still unfolding.

They had travelled to the Bahamas to celebrate their family and their love.

Instead, Nathan was left to mourn his childhood sweetheart while trying to help their sons navigate an unimaginable loss.

His tribute is not simply a story about the final moments of Leanne’s life. It is a testament to the woman he says she was throughout it — a devoted mother, a loving wife and the heart of their family.

Her courage in the water has touched people far beyond her hometown, but the deepest impact of her loss will be felt by the husband and children who loved her most.

Leanne Gregory’s final act was an attempt to save her children. Her sons survived, and her family will carry her love and memory with them.

May Nathan and the boys find strength and comfort in the days ahead. And may Leanne be remembered not only for the heartbreaking circumstances of her dєatᩚh, but for the love she gave her family throughout her life. 🤍
